Best way to upgrade midi inputs I need at least 4

Hi all

I think its time I bought a midi interface I am useing my 2 x Vamps and voice works editors and they neeed to be connected in and out with midi for this to work its a pain scrambleing in the back of the rack and only being able to use one unit at a time.

This meens its no use for mixing so I am looking for something to do the job and run them all at the same time

Oh and also have my Roland Td 20 pluged in

I am not that clued up on midi and I hope to find something as cheep as I can to do the job but the main thing is they will all be conected at once and I dont have to wory about pluging and unpluging all the time and I can then use the editors :)

Any suggestions what to go for ?

Do cakewalk or Roland make anything I can do this with ?

Thanks in advance

Norrie

I use a Mark of the Unicorn Midi Express XT. It is a USB connected 8In/8Out MIDI controller. It works great and you can get 64 bit drivers for it. You can probably pick one up on eBay for ~$150. I've been using mine for 4 years now without any problems. Recommended!

    Have a great holiday season.

    I'm using the Cakewalk 3x3 (UM-3G) with Windows 7 64-bit. Works perfectly.

I was thinking too, that midi works in a serial fashion. simply daisychain the devices out to in and so forth down the line. As long as the channel assignments are correct, I understand that you can do this with 16 (?) different devices, and all will work properly.

Disclaimer: I have never used midi in this fashion. I use one keyboard midi out (only) into my interface and never change that setup. Nor do I know if there is sufficient latency introduced by using the serial method.

I would be interested to hear if this works I know each of the units has a out in and thru on them

Like I said before I know very little about midi so thought a midi interface woudl be the way forward to have them all runing at once. ( Thanks Guitar Hacker)

I hope some one can jump in and let me know :)

If not I will be geting the Cakewalk interface ! ( Thanks Gustabo )
