Plugins would not load- none of them. Crashing- as always.

My plug ins are not working when Inserted from “Insert”. None of them. Not Dimention pro, not Session Drummer- no plug-ins would open. It crashes the Sonar and closes it with error message. All plug ins open in Sonar 8.5. Let me take that back: the Beatscape is disappeared from all menus- X1 and 8.5, so I uninstalled it. I also was forced to uninstall Dimension Pro, because I ran out of disk space. This makes no sense. It is 60 Gb hard drive, and all I have on it is Logic, which is only 2 Gb or so, Office and Sonar. All audio files created/recorded by me are on another drive. I already had this conversation when I installed 8.5 on my lap top and all hard drive space gone, but the add thing is- we never figured out how the space was used- it just gone. Same happened with my desk top. This is new hard-drive- I reinstalled Windows this summer, use it for nothing but for the music. So I uninstalled Dimension and Beatscape and it freed me 11 Gb. But the problem persist and was diagnosed before I uninstalled Dimension or Beatscape. Nothing opens. Crashes right away, like it meant to be so.I don’t understand how new program can be so massed up. I have not installed anything BUT Sonar installation part 1 and 2 files. If you say- it can not find Plugin files- yes, it can- all plug ins on a list. I also ran Plugin scan. Found everything with exception of Beatscape (before I uninstalled it- as I said- that one disappeared from 8.5 and never made it to X1) I can not install all available files over, because I do not have disk space- well- I have 11 Gb. But what’s the point- the plugins would not open. Is there new way to insert them? In 8.5 I could insert them as effects on individual track or by using “Insert” in tool/menu bar. With X1 it would open if I insert them in a track as effect, but not from Insert on a menu/tool bar. I can not get to dump file becayuse such folder is not visible, sorry. It says the problem in SonarPDR.exe.  What’s wrong? Thanks.

Interesting development. If I uncheck the check mark near “Open Synth Rack”, then it inserts. If I check “Synth Rack, it sounds like it scratches hard drive, and then gives the error. I guess- I am not getting to play tonight either. I am at school, on top of working- time is so limited.

My thread pushed on a 2nd page, like this is not important. Where are the Cakewalk people? This makes no sense at all.

I can say- it is resolved. I called tech support, waited 20 minutes, and when we connected- it was working. This is good thing, but also it is scary. It should not just fix itself like that. I did not even restarted the program from last night. Will see what happens. Thanks everyone.

I have the identical problem (all plug ins crash X1 Pro - byu they all work in 8.5 pro no issues)

So exactly what did tech support tell you to do or look at?

The same uncheck "synth rack" temporarily solves problem until I actauuly need it to set up synth then it crashes X1 - everytime

Just curious.  You are working on a laptop (I gather from you description).

I had a similar (but not exact) problem when I used the second drive in my laptop.   My problem was the power settings.   It seems that Windows likes to sleep the 2nd drive.  So, when I opened a synth or accessed audio data (on that second drive), Sonar would stumble or crackle.  Sometimes I needed to reset the audio engine, other times I need to quit sonar.

I then looked at my power settings and sure enough, my second drive was being put into an inactive state to save power.  I changed power plans (actually made my own custom plan) and the problem went away.

It may or not be your problem, but you can eliminate it as being the cause.

    Good Luck

Can't speak for vladasyn but I am on a desktop and this plugin issue is not a power issue since it's fine as long as we don't bring up the synth rack view (which really makes it hard to work with the plug in)

But  in case anyone asks further (dell XPS Dimension PRo, using Win XP SP3, 3.2 Ghz P4, with 4GB ram and 500GB and 1TB internal respectively C:, D: and Sonar 8.5 Producer plugins work fine)

But Thanks on heads up on possible Laptop audio issues when I do use a laptop

    Wild guess:

-Synth Rack used to be an independent window

-Synth Rack now resides in Browser

-Insert Synth dialogue has a "open synth rack" check mark

WILD GUESS: the dialogue's link to Synth rack is broken?

    Perhaps report the bug?

    Hello.

I have been testing several synths via the "main" insert dropdown, Insert/Softsynth. One synth did crash Sonar, and that was X-Phrase.  A pity, I liked that one.

The ones that did work okay for me included Dim Pro, TTS-1, DropZone, SI Electric Piano, the old Steinberg "Groove Agent" from 2003, Pentagon I, and Roland GrooveSynth.

Here are the options that I usually select.

Simple Midi Track - usually checked (based on my reading in the forum)

    Open these windows:
      Synth Property Page - checked
      Synth Rack View - checked

    Recall Assignable Controls - checked
Ask This Every Time - checked

All other options were left unchecked.

I'm going to see if I can get X-Phrase to work...

    Followup:

Prior to the crash of Sonar by X-Phrase, I couldn't find any presets in the X-phrase browser.  After the crash, I simply restarted Sonar, loaded the project again, and re-inserted X-Phrase.  Now it's there and the presets are available.

And no crash in 5 minutes of using it.

Weird.  But a happy result, since I like this oldie-but-goodie synth/arpeggiator...

Reported to tech support already (with a few more details than given here)  but given the  holidays and weekend they are out of the loop right now.  Given I am at a stand still on this issue (but only in X1) I was just hoping some other user might have already reported and gotten a response from tech - with a possible fix/work around.

PS I saw that rack view was moved off "view" (I am still catching up on reading but found the "browser view" - so thanks for insight on that.  However, X1 still crashes when ANY plug in is "opened" for viewing/editing, etc.)
