Jim remember the M-Audio MIDI interfaces had this problem awhile back? The standard tip for getting around this was to turn off or disconnect the hung MIDI interface. This didn't stop most other MIDI interfaces from performing just fine with Sonar. I don't think CW did anything to fix the problem but new M-Audio MIDI interfaces don't seem to have the problem any more. This could be due to a rewrite of their drivers to make them compatible with Vista and Win 7.

Hi John

Good point...
Forgot about the M-Audio MIDI interfaces
To their credit, M-Audio did (finally) update the drivers... and that kept a lot of M-Audio MIDI-Sport units from the dumpster.

You can do the same thing with the Korg USB units (disconnect before shutting down Sonar).

Hi Mike,

Are you using the class-compliant MIDI driver (just plug in and go)... or did you load the Korg specific MIDI driver?

It is weird tho...I've got projects that never hang (and the Korgs stay plugged in all the time) and then, like today, there are projects that always hang.  In the one I'm working on today I've gone through and made sure there are no "flaky" plugs and such but everytime I shut that project down Sonar gives me the "not responding" header and I get the W7 dialog asking me if I want to close Sonar's exe. file.  This always means a log-off, restart or even a complete shut down to be able to open Sonar, let alone load up another project.

PS to Jim:  Still getting the occasional but regular BSODs referencing the FTU.  Their latest drivers are from November of 2009.  Sheesh.

Where you come from is gone...where you thought you were goin to weren't never there...and where you are ain't no good unless you can get away from it.

I can check later today... if it's helpful... but I probably need some direction with regards to where/what to look for.

Hi Mike,

Look in Add/Remove programs... and see if there's an entry for the Korg USB MIDI driver.
