Nudging not working

Hi,

I'm sure this is a simple fix, but I can't seem to nudge clips. The number pad keys don't work, and the Process > Nudge buttons are grayed out. However, when I use the number pad, there is this cursor in the track that moves. Kind of hard to explain, but it looks like a pipe with the "move" cursor next to it.

Please help ... Thanks! :o)

Did you spill something on your keyboard, or are you just happy to chat with me?

You need to make sure Num Lock key is on for nudging. If it's off curser moves from widget to widget.

What kind of keyboard is it (brand, etc.)? Do you have Sonar 8.5? Does it work there?

Thanks, but the NumLock key is on.

Oh  yeah, also maybe try to reassign one or two of those keys to a different function in keybindings and see if the keys work in that case. Then you'll at least know it's not something flaky with your keyboard.

It's a Microsoft Comfort Curve keyboard. Nudging works fine in v. 8.5.

You know that X1 did away with the Ctrl key for this, right? Just hit the num keys without Ctrl.

Right, but he said his nudge menu items are grayed out too. I wonder if his keybindings got hosed somehow.

Yeah, that's weird. Only things I can think of are:

1. No clip selected
2. Clip position locked.

All right, I uploaded an image to show you what I'm looking at: http://i1213.photobucket....lerelf3/Untitled-1.jpg

I highlighted the clip (which is indeed selected and not locked) and that symbol to the right of it. If I press the 8 key, the symbol goes up the tracks. 2 takes it down. Some of the other number keys change the symbol to a magnifying glass, or what looks like a volume symbol, but no dice with moving the clip. Now, when I go to Process > Nudge, the options are not grayed out anymore. I can click on any of the options, and it DOES nudge the clip. The keyboard shortcuts simply don't work, which is a huge time waster.

Any ideas?

I also just checked my key bindings and they look in order. All the number keys are mapped to the correct function.

I don't think that's a symbol. I think it's a really short clip (otherwise it wouldn't move up tracks when you press 8). Zoom the track view in as far as you can and look at it again. I can make a 32nd note sized clip exactly like that.

Thanks, but no, it's not a clip. I zoomed in pretty far: http://i1213.photobucket....relf3/Untitled-1-1.jpg I can't select, nor delete it.

It's some sort of Sonar cursor. Has no one else seen this? I'm thinking I have a tool turned on that's bringing up this cursor. I don't know what it is. Cakewalk guys? Anybody?

Yeah, I don't know. I can still make a clip that's 20 ticks long that looks exactly like that when I'm zoomed in as far as I can go. And I can't really select it either. If I marquee select it, it also selects a regular sized clip I have next to it and selects the timeline all the way to the beginning of the project. Plus the short clip doesn't even show up in the event list.

But I just figured out that if I marquee select the tiny clip and it also selects the larger clip, I can control-click on the larger clip to deselect it, and that leaves the tiny clip selected alone and I can hit delete key to get rid of it. I really have a feeling that's what you have there, but I've been wrong before.

Except doesn't the aim assist line extend from top to bottom of the entire track view? His line looks like it only extends one track.

Thanks guys, but that's not it. I created a new track and then moved the "cursor" there. I selected everything in the track, hit delete, and nothing. The weird thing is, if I select another clip (midi or audio) in a different track, then hit a num key, the clip becomes deselected and the damn cursor in the other track moves.

By the way, when I open my project, I can't see that cursor. It shows up when I press a key on the num pad.

OK, I figured it out.

When I select a clip and hit a num key the cursor shows up. By mistake I hit 0 and the cursor disappeared. Now I can nudge with the num pad. I feel pretty stupid, but I guess I shouldn't. It doesn't exactly make sense.

Anyway, I hope this helps someone else who may encounter this.

Congrats. I wonder what Num Pad 0 is supposed to do. That same line and move-cursor shows up when I press it. Maybe it's an accessibility thing.

i posted this question a few months back but got no answer... thing is, the number pad nudge worked on midi notes but not audio clips, so I thought it was not meant for nudging clips... I'll have to try this now.
