How many Sends can I insert in Sonar 8.5??
Hi: Sonar 8.5 Producer Is 2 the limit for inserting sends to a track? I have a reverb send, and a Guitar Rig send on my guitar track, and want to add another...but there's no option to add another send...so must I create another track and do it that way...or is there a way to add more sends to the track?? Thanks Ed

I think it's related to the number of bustracks. Reservation for that you are talking about routing stuff from one ordinary track to another, which I read are possible nowadays. Merging from S4 a year ago I have not tried all the new stuff in 8.x.

You can have as many as you want. There is no limit, as long as you pc can handle it

There is no limit, as long as you pc can handle it I'm sure there is an absolute upper limit, as well as a practical upper limit. But I've never reached it, even with multiple effects busses and multiple headphone mixes. I'd guess I've had as many as eight sends going at once. I can't imagine ever needing a lot more than that. Ed, I'm guessing that you're working primarily in the Console View which, in keeping with its motif of emulating physical consoles, allocates only a small area for displaying aux sends. This may lead to the impression that you can only have two, but if you right-click in the gray area there, you can insert a new send via the context menu. This is one of many reasons why I work exclusively in the Track View, and rarely bother with the CV at all.
All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to. My Stuff

(I didnt have any other versions so i cannot speak of them) If you wanted to insert 200 sends, you can. If you wanted to insert 500 sends, you can, just as long as your pc can handle all tthe added CPU Cj

You're welcome. You can right click on the send button in the console view and select 4. I wish Sonar X1 was the samwe, but they went backwards in allot of area's. Now I can only see 2 at the most, instead of the 4 in Sonar 8.5 Cj

Thanks you guys for the replies... I'm new to Sonar, yes I was getting used to working in console view...and I now I can see where I can insert more sends... Once you have a couple of sends inserted, when you click the grey area its a slightly busier menu that pops up, I just didnt see it. So tell me this... I've created a bus for reverb - using a Perfect Space preset. 1. In the track where I have inserted the send, there is a send-level control - so this is how much of the signal I route to the bus??? 2. In the track there is a pan pot - this is doing what? Routing that signal to the left or right of the bus? Why is that necessary if I have a pan control on the bus? I havent quite figured out what this is doing. Ed

Most efxs output stereo therefore the pan. You leave it in the center unless you don't want that instrument to be heard at all in that side. Otherwise you pan with the Track pan control say a guitar, to 45% left, and the listener will hear it strongly there in space but a hint of the guitar with more efx's will be heard to the right. So if you pan the efxs using it's control you can move the efxs around too. It's one of the mixers tools to create and manipulate space. We need to always keep track and control how our signals are travelling about to get where we want to go. Otherwise mush!

Quick question about headphone sends. I have used Sonar 8 for a while now 64bit, i5 two hard drives windows 7 64 and x2 Firestudio Projects. Up until now Ive only really been using the main mix as a monitor as I mostly just record my own stuff. But have started doing a bit of on the side demos for people so will start needing seperate headphone mixes etc. I have a presonus HP60 as a heaphone amp to feed 6 head phones either an A or B mix. So in Sonar I set up two sends on each main buss. So Id have my drums (8 tracks) to a buss, guitars (4 or 5 tracks) to a buss etc etc, and I have 2 sends on each buss to the HP60 A and B mix. These sends then are rpouted to 2 busses that feed the harware outputs (there are no sends on these two busses or the master bus). So I set up a mutitrack template for these types of projects and set about using it for my newest solo project to get a feel for the setup. I noticed that when using a couple of soft syths and the looping markers i would get dropouts quite often. My system is pretty stable and i hardly every get a drop out normally. So my question is this. Is my computer having a too hard of a time sending these mixes from main busses and should I send these from the channles them selfs, or is my computer just having a hard time sending these mixes in general? Is there a better a way I could achive two headphone mixes? Any Ideas? Cheers.

Um, I guess that means I can have alot. I get that, and so far Ive had pretty big mixes with lots and lots of sends. But what I'm asking is: The way in which I have configured it now, for headphones feeding basicaly 3 pairs or hardware outputs, does that introduce any more strain on the audio engine than say feeding one harware output. Its just that I'd loop a small riff or somthing and build a drum beat for it and in the past no drama, no drop outs (even with lots of sends to FX etc) suddenly I introduce an extra two harware outputs and "Bam" frequent drop outs when I loop small sections of my project. Just wondering if there is a way I can test to see where the system is falling down so i can try and patch her up. Also have been thinking about upgrading to 8.5 or just X1 soon when i get round to it if that makes any differance to the situation. Cheers.

8.5.3 was/is a LOT more stable than 8, at least in my experience.

Cool, thanks I guess thats my next step, I have been meaning to upgrade for ages just never bothered as 8 has been doing great up until now, its not really an issue if i just turn all the sends off on the busses, but thats a bit of a pain.
