True 16 Channel (I/O) control surface/audio interface (is there really such a thing?)
I can't seem to find a combo control surface/audio interface that will allow for 16 channels of simultanious audio (with 16 XLR preamps) to be input and individually assigned to seperate tracks in a DAW and that will permit realtime 2 way connectivity between the faders on the control surface and the virtual input faders on the DAW. Any suggestions are welcome, including combinations of hardware. Thanks

I have a ZED-R16 which will do that but the faders aren't motorised. Can be expanded to 24 channel via the addition of an ADAT interface. A&H are soon releasing (if not already) a 24 channel version which will have motorised faders as an option. Details on the ZED-R16 HERE - fantastic bit of kit, I love mine...... The new GS 24 version HERE

Im drooling over the GS-24, wow I wish they had compression on the board on each track. I don't see that on the list of features.

Thanks for ZED info. I have read a bit about the A&H unit but it wasn't clear in the literature if they in fact could do this. I'll give them a much closer look now.

Audient Zen? It has the converters, but would need and AES card for your computer such a Lynx or RME. A little on the high end.

I don't think they do the ZED-R16 doesn't but it does have inserts on every channel. I had a real hard time justifying the ZED-R16 to myself and I'd love the GS-24 especially with motorised faders, but that's some serious bucks for a hobbyist like myself. Even if I am planning to take it a little further when I find the right premises.. rsbkeys Thanks for ZED info. I can't rate the ZED-R16 high enough, it really is great, BUT..... I am just a hobbyist so my experiences with other kit is rather limited. Got good reviews from soundonsound though and elsewhere if that means anything.

I own a ZED-R16 and love it with Sonar. I can record 16 simultanious channels and or monitor 16 channels via firewire. It also controls Sonar's MIDI control via the firewire. Worth a look.

The audient stuff doesn't have convertors - although you can add a stereo AD to the Zen. The zen has the option for motorized faders (and mic preamps). Teh 2408 (or whatever designation it has) has 8 motorized faders and line inputs for 16 more. You could mix w/ 8 faders on 8 tracks and use your daw for the others. The AH 16 does 16X16 and you can record and mix w/ EQs on each channel. The 24 operates the same but adds 16 (?) moterized faders and more inputs. It ain't out yet, as far as I know, and will be closer to $10,000 than the 16's $2000.
https://soundcloud.com/a-pleasure-dome http://www.bnoir-film.com/ there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head. 24 And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the Lord. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.

If I was starting from scratch either of those Zeds would make me drool as well. They seem to represent an incredible opportunity to build a great little studio or live rig around. Are the firewire drivers solid? best regards, mike
