BFD2 and SONAR - still not working together for me
Hello friends
I've been away from the forums for a couple of months now.
Two or three months ago, I was really struggling with getting BFD2 to run with SONAR 8.5
Many of you, in particular, my pal purlington, tried to help me.
I spent many hours each weekend, trying out the things you suggested, and making no progress. I became very frustrated, and with the limits of time and the amount of stress it was causing me - I just GAVE UP.
I stopped work on the song that needed drums. I've pushed aside any track needing drums.
But the truth is, I really want BFD2 to WORK in SONAR. Even if it has to be standalone and import, that would be fine - but I cannot even make THAT work correctly.
Strangely, in SONAR 4, under Windows XP, I could run BFD in Standalone; export 16 track audio; import that audio into SONAR, and have the most beautiful drum sounds imaginable.
If I could even get back to that state, now that I am running SONAR 8.5 under Windows 7 64 bit, I would be forever in your debt if you can help me.
Here is where I am at.
1) At no time, have I ever really got BFD to work as a plug-in of SONAR. I did have a basic understanding that you have to do a custom mapping, because the default BFD2 mixer maps them all to one channel, and I spent a lot of time setting up custom maps to ensure that the drum kit was mapped to various stereo and mono tracks in SONAR. But...I could not get it to RECORD. It doesn't; wouldn't; didn't record.
2) In desperation, after weeks of sheer frustration, after trying many suggestions ranging from the sensible to the bizarre, I reached the conclusion that I needed to strip things back.
3) So I uninstalled BFD2 from both of my machines (both reasonably powerful machines running Win 7 64-bit) and CAREFULLY re-installed it, adding in each update, testing it each time, so I would have a "clean install".
4) Then I tried the simplest thing of all - a 2 minute long groove pattern that I set up in BFD2, I tried to output it to multitrack audio, with a view to reverting to my "old" way of doing things as I'd done back in 2009 in SONAR 4.
5) The tracks export fine, except, the cymbals are choked all to hell, and sound horrible.
6) I had THOUGHT there was a fix for the cymbal choking problem, which from memory, was to set the "OFFLINE" to "OFFLINE" - which I did, but, the cymbals choke off horrible in every test.
7) If we could get it to produce a decent drum track with viable CYMBALS in standalone, I would then consider re-approaching the plug-in version
So - everything is good. My SONAR 8.5 installs both run fine, no problems. EVERY other soft synth I have, runs fine, no problem. It's ONLY BFD2 that DOES NOT WORK in plug-in mode (for me)
I appeal to you once again then, how can we solve the cymbal choking problem, and, are there any advances in the technology of using BFD2 within SONAR as a plug-in?
Thank you in advance, I very, very much appreciate your help past and present.
happy holidays!
dave
BTW - every time I try to log onto this forum, I never can. it does not recognise my email address, or my password, or something. I was forced to create another account this time, which is either my second or third. So because I seem to have great dificulty logging back on to the forum, may I ask that anyone who replies to the above, please COPY my personal email as well:
