sound card

Hi all
Just wondering......
I am currently running a laptop with cardbus EMU 1616M unit.  I have a more powerful desktop however, I was thinkinkg of tracking with  my laptop, then bouncing the wav files over to Sonar on my better desktop for the editing.  However, it's an HP with a stock sound card, when it comes time to mixdown and mastering, etc.  I am screwed quality wise correct?  Maybe I just need to shell out the 200 for an EMU PCIe card for my unit, and begin tracking with my desktop, and bypass the laptop, cardbus, altogether?  Any tips for finding me a used EMU 1010 PCI card, besided Kijiji or Ebay?  Thanks
Kevin

Actually, it is only the monitoring that will be a problem on the desktop.  The onboard soundcard won't deliver high-quality DA sound, but on the other hand you won't have to worry about translation to cheap computer speakers, either ;-)  The signal won't pass through the actual card for mixing or mastering processing - only what you are listening to.

But yea, I'd get something I could use w/ the desktop.  Most FW units sound pretty good and have low latency.  And Pci FW cards are pretty cheap.  And USB is getting better all the time.  For $200 you could get a TC Konnekt 6, which is a pro sounding unit.  Hugh at SOS thought it sounded better than any other sub $500 interface, and he uses the EMU as his standard.  You get stereo ADDA and one good preamp, but no midi.  I'm happy w/ the drivers (all the TCK stuff uses the same one) now and the sound on my 48, and it does have midi.

A sound card is an internal team that processes the audio playback to provide a high quality computer speakers. A sound card plays back the voice files and music, and can handle multiple formats audio files. Wav,. Mp3 y. Cda to name a few. The sound card is typical of an interface available in the back of the computer with the participation of the various ports and output.

Why can't you use the Emu on the desk top as well? I looked it up and it looked like a PCI card so I'm not really sure how that connects to a lappy unless there is some other sort of device..... that ends in USB.... in which case, plug it into the USB on the desktop.... if that is how it connects....

I have a Saffire Firewire interface, and when I built my desktop DAW recently, all I did was install the FW drivers and I continue to use the Saffire on either machine as I need.

It's like an EDI connection I think, through a cardbus, so I need this EDI thing on the PCIe card now for the desktop.
they are like 169 new.  I think it's the 1212m package that has the 1010 card I need.

Sound card facilitates the input and output of audio signals to and from a computer. It is a one type of software and without it computer can't operate audio. Most computers have inbuilt wound card but we can update it.

An expansion card that allows a computer to manipulate and output sounds. Sound cards are necessary for almost all CD-ROM and have become common in modern personal computers. Sound cards enable the computer to the sound of the speakers connected to the registration card for sound input from a microphone connected to your computer, and manipulate sound stored on a disk.
