Which PCI / PCIe Firewire Card?
This is for my old general-purpose bedroom machine, based on a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L.
The interfaces I'll be using with it are an M-Audio Firewire 410 and probably also an RME FireFace 800.
Newegg has several TI-controller models from StarTech.com and SYBA.
Any of them on the recommended list?

Startech and Siig is who i recommend. no need for firewire 800 just get 400

just a word of caution, I bought an SIIG thinking it was TI but it was not. their cheaper ones are VIA and they cover up the chip on ALL of them with their SIIG logo sticker.
I believe that as long as you get TI you won't have problems, therefore, I think all TI chipsets are equal.

Hi guys, got a problem right here
I bought a SYBA PCIe Firewire card with a TI chipset to use with my Tascam FW-1884. It works great and all, almost perfect. The only thing is that whenever I move the firewire cable the connection with my console goes off and I have to turn my FW-1884 off and on so it gets the firewire signal again. Not big of a deal but still gets me a little worried.....do you think it's the cable or did my SYBA card came faulty? Also, is it okay to hook my console with a 6 pin to 4 pin firewire cable? Thanks

it could be either. I'd change out the cable and see if that helps. it could be just a poor connector "lock."
no, you can't use a 4pin firewire cable - the other 2 pins are power.

Also, is it okay to hook my console with a 6 pin to 4 pin firewire cable? Yes, you can use a 6-pin to 4-pin FW cable (plugging into a 4-pin Firewire port). The only difference between 4-pin and 6-pin Firewire is that 6-pin Firewire carries bus power. There is absolutely no performance difference. It sounds like there's a potential short in the cable (or a flakey firewire port on the controller itself). FWIW, I'd avoid regular movement of the Firewire cable. You can end up putting stress on the ports (as Firewire cable is generally pretty stiff - not flexible). Pickup another Firewire cable and see if that resolves the issue.
