for Control Surface - how to hide some tracks and numbering rest of them IN ORDER?
Hi, just another stupid question. IT CONCERNS Console View and using Mackie MCU or Behringer BCF - or any other control surface. Help me please! I made some Audio tracks and MIDI tracks. MIDI is only to send notes to external hardware (or softsynths - doesn't matter), audio - returns from interface to SONAR - t mix external audio in SONAR. Now - in Console View - I have all these tracks, but I don't wan't to see and to mix MIDI tracks. Usng Tracks Manager I can hide MIDI tracks, but they still are "under faders" of my controller. Moreover, even if I hifde them, rest of the tracks is numbered as the hiden tracks are still visible, so.... I cant "hide and forfet" and mix only visible tracks one by one. Example - make 5 tracks, hide 2 and 4... You have visible tracs: 1, 3, 5 BUT - under faders you have access to all 5 tracks. And the tracks 1, 3, 5 are numbered as they was before hidding 2 and 4. How to comfortably mix tracks, if there are such ****ups? Or maybe I do somethng wrong?

In 8.5 you could just drag and drop the tracks around so you could put them next to each other for mixing easier on one bank of 8 faders. I'm not even sure you can move tracks around anymore. I don't know how to do it if there is.

it's not ablut MOVING jst - to eliminate unwanted tracks from Console and mixing rest of them i on order as they appear - with "no matter" what number they have - just one after one... You have faders on your controller - 1, 2, 3, etc. And on Console- 1, 5, etc - but they are just "in row" - so why I gotta jump over my controller to find the track i want to make louder or make some panning??? sorry - English is not my first language... can't explain it more clearly...

Adrian, what he's saying is that if you could line up each track in CV to be next to each other, your MCU will automatically adjust to that (I know because I've done exactly this in 8.5.3). However, in X1 you cannot (as yet) move your tracks around in CV ... maybe it'll come later, who knows ... So basically, the answer is "no" you can't do it with X1 (at this time).

Try this: Have the console view showing, and selected (ie active window). Type "H" to bring up track manager. At the bottom, check the item that says " Keep Track/Console visibility states in sync". If you hide tracks in track view, they should be hidden in console view as well - and the control surface should see them correclty (UNLESS this bug is worse than some have said).

When I get to the mixing stage I drag the tracks I will be mixing into the top part of the track view Then my MCU matches up to the correct tracks Otherwise, I just use the console view until I'm ready to do the above

The Alphatrack has an option to skip archived tracks. I just tried hiding the archived track and it skipped it. Does your controller do anything like that? Of course, the Alphatrack only has one fader so it's probably a whole different story for yours.

BCF and Mackie MCU (i suppose) see the numbers of tracks exactly as they are numbered in CV - no matter if they are hidden or not. X1 doesn't change numberating other tracks to correspond to their position in CV (doesn't do "recounting" and doesn't skip hidden tracks). You do some moves, ie. Audio on left, MIDI on right on CV - you have total mess in Track View. You hide "unwanted" tracks - they're still under faders of your controller. You make folders and collapse them - doesn't matter... still the same with counting and numbers. And with controller. Any ideas how to pass thru?

btw. while ago I was trying what happens if i hide some tracks in Sonar 8 - and it works as it should - rest of the tracks (you can see it on the bottom of CV) is "recounting" and they work with controller just as it should be - opposite to X1 !!! Courious...

You can do the same thing but not from the CV. You will need to do it from TV.

It would be nice if we could just hide tracks from the control surface. Maybe filter MIDI or ones with a button pushed or some such. It would be very useful with instrument tracks.

I think what he wants to do is this; Tracks 1 thru 8 are controllable via his MCU which has 8 faders. If he hides a track, he still can control it with the MCU, but he wants the hidden track to "disapper" on the MCU as well so he doesn't change the volume by mistake. I don't think you can do this unless there is an option like ModBod mentioned. The best solution is to move the track around so they are in the order you want to mix with. Click on the big icon in the track view below the track number to move tracks around. You need to have the option selected as stated in post #5 above.

@ MixMan Yes - I want to achieve something like you wrote. And - I CAN DO IT - but with Sonar8. Just hide in CV, that's all. The rest is "automatic" in S8. You can see it in CV - on the bottom, under the channels. You hide one track, the rest is "movng left", and the same nder the fingers on your control surface, no matter if it's Mackie, Behringer, Digidesign or Novation.

I was reading the other thread you were discussing this same thing in. The feature you're requesting would be a very good thing to have returned to X1 IMO. Good morning in Poland.

Good morning in Poland. not "very good" but - I can't imagine comfortable work with X1 without this! and next thing - grouping several tracks into one folder and "closing" the folder - makes one "master track" - in expample - you make folder for drum tracks, but you want to have controll over volume using just one fader. Offcourse you can route everything to a bus - but it is still like make extra miles by car because the shortcut is under construction.

The problem is that you can have more than one synth in a Track Folder. So it could be a problem if you only want to adjust ONE of the synths but not ALL in the folder. I don't mind the way it is (and yes, Buses are one solution).

It's configurable in the preferences dialog. Take a look at the PDF Reference Guide on page 1141: Synchronizing channel strips between SONAR and control surfaces SONAR allows control surfaces to display all channel strips in a project, or only the channel strips that are visible in the Track view or Console view. 1. Go to Edit > Preferences > MIDI - Control Surfaces. 2. Under Control Strips Visible in, click one of the following: -
Track View. The controller/surface matches the channel strips that are visible in the Track view. -
Console View. The controller/surface matches the channel strips that are visible in the Console view. -
All Strips. The controller/surface shows all channel strips in the project. The controller/surface immediately refreshes and displays the specified channel strips. EDIT: Had to clean up the formatting from my cut/paste. EDIT2: I tested this with my Mackie Control and XT, and it works as advertised. I selected both "Track View" and "Console View". EDIT3: My ongoing preference is to keep it at "Console View"

Thank you for this, PC - Since getting my A-800 Pro keyboard this month, I've been dragging tracks around so they're all next to each other when I want to use the Apro's faders. This makes much more sense. Great! RB
