X1: Is there now an "S" Fade in/out clip Curve?
Folks, In SONAR X1 is there now an "S" fade curve for clips? (Like slow, fast, linear) Thanks

No, just the same slow, fast and linear options we had before.

bitflipper I use "S" fades all the time in SONAR. Can they be done non-destructively?

Yeah you just need to use a real clip envelope and not the edge fades.

bitflipper I use "S" fades all the time in SONAR. Are you talking about using a clip envelope? I just checked in X1, and the edge fades don't have the S curve. If your does, how do you access it?

It's also helpful to know that S fades drawn over a logarithmic display may not acually provide any effect that you may hear. If the tangent point where the curves reverse is down in the "you can't hear anything range" then... you probably can't hear it. That is why a normal old fade up may seem to work just nearly as well. best regards, mike BTW it occurs to that the beziers in SONAR don't rotate... so my previous post was nothing more than eroneous. Bezier would have sufficed.

Just append a slow curve to a fast curve or vice versa and you have a nondestructive S fade that can be tweaked in many more ways than any canned fade. Try some A/B experiments using different fade shapes. You'll find that under a certain time span, you can't actually discern any difference between them, especially when the fade is on one track of many. Depending on the context, that threshold of audibility may be as long as a full second (99% of my fades are < 250ms in duration).

Yes, absolutely... I must admit that I was thinking exclusively about very short fades at the edges of a clip. I should have explained what I was thinking or perhaps imagined that others may be speaking of longer fades. Thanks for the reality check. all the best, mike

However, when editing a master with a long fade out, the difference can be heard. How hard would it be to add an S curve to the menu? It would certainly be quicker that using a workaround.
