Sonar 7 and Yamaha S80

I have a Yamaha S80 and sonar home studio 7. So I've been recording for a bit and I have just been using the preset voices through sonar but I want to be able to use the voices from my synth; I don't know how to do this. I've been reading about local control in some of the posts but I don't really understand it all that well and the manual for the S80 is miserable when it comes to explaining anything really.  How do I record the voice from my synth instead of the voice that sonar wants to use? For example when I go to the properties page of my softsynth, I can choose the voice (piano 1, drums, whatever) but I want to be able to use the ones that are on my synth that I hear if I'm just playing my synth without being hooked up to sonar. Any help is appreciated! Thanks.

Just set the MIDI out to your MIDI device.  Go to Options>MIDI Devices and select whichever the keyboard is connected to. Select that output in the MIDI track, too.
That will send the data to the keyboard for it's synth to play.
    If it were that simple...
There are channels and patches to select, and your previously mentioned local control. In my case, I set the track's output to my MIDI device and it plays whatever patch I select in the MIDI track pane as long as I use different channels.
Go to www.cakewalknet.com and see if the Instrument Definition is available for the S80. Download and install that and it will make selecting the S80's patches easier.
Once you've got it figured out, you play the MIDI data through the keyboard while recording the keyboard's audio output into an audio track in SHS 7.
Gee, it seemed easy before I started typing. :-)

As 57Gregy said: download the instrument definition file from http://www.cakewalknet.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=21&Itemid=48. There is one for the S80.

    Then go to Options-Instruments
    Press the Define button
    Press the Import button
Find the INS file you downloaded earlier and select it
    Press close
On the Assign Instruments Dialog, select each Output Channel on your MIDI interface and assign it to the S80.
Then press close and you're done.

Now when you go to select a patch, you'll get the S80 patches. You may also have to select a bank since the S80 probably has multiple banks of patches.

I'm new to SHS7. I'm trying to figure out how to create a track from Studio instruments presets and insert it.. Like a bass run, or strings. I'm able to create a track for say, SI bass, and hear it play. I see the monitor move when the music plays, but I can't insert it in the song. I'm just getting set up and don't have allot of knowledge, yet. I'm able to record voice and my guitar and add effects and all, but I want some sort of backing track, like strings. If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it.

    Hi Paul.
Say, in the future, could you start your own thread when you have a question not relating to the thread? It makes it easier for you to keep track of where your questions are and lessens the confusion on these old brain cells; whose question am I answering?
In any case, you need MIDI data in a MIDI track with it's output set to a soft synth in order to hear anything.
You can enter MIDI data by recording it from a MIDI keyboard or controller or using your mouse to enter notes in either the Piano Roll view (PRV) or the Staff view, if you're more familiar with musical notation.
