Newbie: How do I insert a SI bass or string preset track

Hey, I was told I should start my own thread. So sorry, still new here. I'm trying to insert an instrumental track with a preset bass run from studio instruments. I know I must be missing something. It cant be that difficult. I'm ok with adding my own vocal and guitar track, but I want a preset bass run. You got me on this one. Any help???

Try clicking the name of the clip in the studio instruments bass and dragging it onto a midi track that is feeding the soft synth. For example, In the SI Bass, in the ROCK section, the first clip is 'AINT IT RIGHT. I can click and drag 'AINT IT RIGHT right onto a midi track.

Here's what I did. I started with blank track. Then added SI Instrument Bass guitar. I opened up the SI Bass guitar went to rock and tried to drag Ain't Right into the track. I see plus sign but it won't appear in the track. I think there is something that I'm missing. The input on the track says Omni and the output is to my sound card.

ok I changed the input to SI Bass Guitar midi channel 1. I press the play button and see the arrow move like it's playing but I don't hear anythin and don't see and waves.

I'm unclear. What kind of track are you dragging it onto? An instrument track? I can't duplicate your problem so I guess I can't offer much help.

What kind of tracks are you using? A soft synth requires a midi track to send it data and an audio track to play the data. So you can have a midi track with the soft synth as its output and an audio track with the soft synth as its input. If you have two tracks configured that way, any midi clips/loops you put in the midi track should be audible through the audio track.

You can also insert a simple instrument track when you insert the soft synth. That is a combination of midi and audio track. You can enter midi on it and it automatically goes through the soft synth into the audio part of the track.

You won't see a waveform in a soft synth track unless you freeze it. Freezing it temporarily bounces the soft synth down to an audio clip. This is usually done to free up the resources used to play a soft synth. Don't worry about not seeing a waveform, just keep an eye on the meters.

You are the man. Almost there. I'm trying the same method with the drumkit and it won't drag onto the track. I'm seeing the plus, but it's not dropping. I guess I gotta keep fiddling.
