can't hear sound from X1 essentials(can from SHS7xl) and can't find wave profiler in X1

Maybe you guys can help me. I installed X1 essential and read the documentation. This is an excerpt:

Running SONAR for the first time
There are two ways to start SONAR:
• Double-click the SONAR X1 icon on your desktop.
• Click the Start button, and choose Programs > Cakewalk > SONAR X1 > SONAR X1
(Producer, Studio or Essential).
The Wave Profiler
The first time you start SONAR, it automatically runs the Wave Profiler utility. Wave Profiler
determines the proper MIDI and Audio settings for your audio device. The Wave Profiler does
not change the sound card's settings. Wave Profiler detects the make and model of your audio
device to determine the device's audio and MIDI settings.
When the Wave Profiler determines the kind of card you have, always accept the default
settings. You can run the Wave Profiler again if you install a new audio device or driver by
choosing Edit > Preferences > Audio - Driver Settings in SONAR and clicking the Wave
Profiler button.

I followed these directions, but there is no wave profiler in the driver settings of SONAR. Furthermore, Wave Profiler did not run when I first started up either. I suspect this is why I cannot hear the sample files being played.

Any of you have this issue? and if you did, how did you resolve?

I'm running Windows 7 64 bit on a new HP Athlon with 6 gig of ram, 1 terabyte memory. I also have installed M Audio 2496 sound card.  I also have had no issues like this installing my new SHS7xl. Wave Profiler ran first time I cranked it up and have been recording with it with no issues.

Thanks,

Andy

You don't get the Wave Profiler button if you're using ASIO mode. You'll get the ASIO Panel button instead. Same as previous versions of Sonar. The ASIO Panel button will take you to your soundcard's ASIO control panel utility where you can configure it manually.
