"Runtime Error!" occurring frequently in 8.5 since installing X1
Is anyone seeing this in 8.5, and is there any correlation to installing X1? I have both 8.5 and X1 installed and have been working in 8.5 and experimenting in X1. Until recently I experienced crashes in 8.5 every now and then and I do a lot of editing and work there to know that it's been reasonably stable for me. But since installing X1, I have found that 8.5 is crashing very frequently, after only several edits have occurred in one editing session -- specifically editing and copying clips. The exact error message I get before Sonar crashes is a dialog box stating: "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library: Runtime Error! ...SONARPDR8.5.exe abnormal program termination" Is this coincidence? I don't want to jump to this conclusion but would like to hear if anyone else has noticed anything similar...

just happened again. That's the third time in 15 minutes. Never saw this before. Maybe it's the project file itself, but then again I've been working on that just fine before...

This is exactly the same issue I had. 8.5.3 would start crashing after about 5-10 edits with the C++ error. Even uninstalling X1 and 8.5.3 and reinstalling 8.5.3 didn't help. The only thing that helped was doing a Windows System Restore to a point before X1 was installed. My guess is that it's the C++ 2005 runtime that X1 installs for some reason. You might want to try that. As of now, I have no X1 (or X1a) installed on my machine. I have too many things to finish to warrant a crashing machine

You might want to go to the Microsoft site and get both the 2005 C++ runtime distributable (it's at SP1 level) AND the 2010 one (NOT the beta version though). Reinstalling them will not harm your system and may solve your problem. I've done it.

Well, I installed updates for Visual C++ Runtime, but also decided to try and switch to X1 for further editing to see if I could get past this issue as well as further my competency with the new release. Everything was fine until I tried to edit some clip envelopes. Then, bam, the same error comes back to haunt me. Anyone else seeing this behaviour? I'm working with existing projects that were started back before 8.5 and I never had these issues before. I'm willing to entertain the idea of this being a coincidence still, but maybe others are seeing these issues too?

Im also seeing this error frequently on SonarX1a running on WindowsXP. Never had this on Sonar8. I have also updated the visual c++ files but continue seeing this problem. Any advise?

Hello Neole I'm afraid I don't have any other advice at this time. Someone else suggested returning to an earlier Windows restore point (pre-X1 install) but that would mean losing the use of X1. I'm not sure if the installation of X1 is to blame but it seemed more than coincidental for me and it's interesting to see that there are a few of us that seem to be affected by this "coincidence". I haven't had much chance to use Sonar in the past couple of weeks so I can't say yet if things are better. I was experiencing crashes reasonably frequently given the amount of heavy editing I was doing that I didn't think I was experiencing this much before -- and even the same story if I went back to 8.5. It's interesting that you are on XP though. We need to get more of us involved so that a pattern can emerge which can then be tackled by Cakewalk directly...

Oh yes, it also takes a very long time to draw waveforms after Ive recorded a vocal clip, but only for some takes. Most takes come immediately and some leave me waiting for over a minute for the waveform to appear. The microsoft visual c crash mostly occurs after such waits. I will check more carefully next time it crashes to see what was going on. The random waveform draw delays on recording clips used to happen with sonar 8 also, but not the visual c crashes.

HI, This happened to me some time back when I went from S7PE to S8PE. I was getting runtime errors using projects that were previously OK. Cant remember how I fixed it which I know is not going to help you, but I did fix it which I hope gives you a light at the end of the tunnel! Like you, I posted and read forums and dicked with an array of options. From memory it was plugin related but I somehow fixed it. Anyway, good luck!

Heres a hint I got here by 'IndustryStandard' - http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?high=&m=2217044&mpage=1#2217134 "are you using the Sonitus FX Delay? There is a serious memory leak in it and you have to replace it by re-installing it from the 8.0 disk or earlier. " I was using sonitus fx delay on all my projects, and now Ive deleted it from my current project its stopped crashing. Are you using this plugin as well?

There is a serious memory leak in it and you have to replace it by re-installing it from the 8.0 disk or earlier. The DLL from the 8.5 download, v3.3.3.372, was also okay. Only the 3.3.3.141 version from the 8.5 disks, and the 3.3.4.184 version from the X1 download are a problem to my knowledge. For reference, the version on the 8.0 disks was 3.3.3.221. I don't know what version is shipping with the X1 disks.
