SPE8,SPE8.5 or X1...which uses the least resources?
I have a dual core laptop with SPE8 on it and it uses almost half the cores just sitting idly (with only 3 softsynths loaded)... just wondering if anyone knows offhand which uses the least cpu out of the 3. Thanks guys, Randy

There is no significant or consistent difference between the three versions on my Q9550-based system.

I saw a significant improvement when I loaded an 8.5 project in to X1. But ... I didn't have any instances of Pro Chanel turned on. Having that right there is going to suck up a lot of CPU power, especially when used on every track.

We use the laptop for live gigs and it does fine with one keyboard controller (that my wife uses) but I'm just wondering if it's even possible to use Session Drummer 3 with my MIDI drum kit ...and sound just like John Bohnam man!!!

I got around to installing X1 on the laptop and I'm very impressed. Where I was seeing close to 40-50% cpu activity (in the Sonar display) I am seeing 15-20% activity. I hooked up 2 midi controllers and driving True Pianos and Session drummer (just banging on keys of both keyboards simultaneously) and it looks like the laptop will handle it. What I'd like to ask about is the best way to set everything up to where my wife can change from true pianos to a dim pro patch... preferably from her keyboard but I could do it like I have been and doing it from the laptop. I would also like to be able to switch programs in SD3. Your help would be most appreciated! Randy

Just set TruePianos MIDI input to a specific channel and Dim Pro's to an adjacent channel, and Bob's your uncle!

Hey Mr B, it is working as you said except for some reason I have to select/highlight the synth on the laptop to actually get sound. To better explain I have 3 synths loaded and they set to midi channel 1-3. Lets say I'm playing along on channel 1 and then switch to channel 2 on the controller I get no sound. If I select synth #2 on the laptop it plays the patch fine. Is there something I can do to where I don't have to select the synth on the laptop? Thanks, Randy

Is there something I can do to where I don't have to select the synth on the laptop? Click the (MIDI) Input Echo buttons - looks like ))) - to force echo on both Instrument tracks whether they are the currently active track or not. Only the one receiving messages with its assigned input channel will actually echo anything.
