What do you like for a good CD burner software?

I'm back to using Nero that came with the drive or whatever for crying out loud.  (..done with Pyro I guess).
A reliable app, and step up from there perhaps?
Vista and XP..

New year cheers!

I bought Pyro a long time ago.  I was never happy with it.  I have a full (paid) version of Nero and haven't had any problems with it.

The only complaint that they have never fixed is with Nero Burning ROM.  When dragging songs to be burned to the burn window listing if it's a two word song title Nero will only show the second word in the title.  The first word will wind up in the Artist entry.

You might consider giving CDBurnerXP a try.

I've had no problems with it, and it's freeware.

If it doesn't do what you specifically need, then maybe Roxio would work for you.

I like to use Sony CD Architect for audio.  It's easy to use and you can cross-fade between songs.  I usually use Roxio for data transfers.

Thanks for the replies. I completely for got about CD Architect, I'll look into that. It seems to have a good feature set, just a bit more than Roxio..
Actually posted in a bit of a huff. It's frikin amazing though- What is up with these burner progs- track numbers become names, part of names shift to 'artist, and PYRO WTF?.. saves the session backwards from day one apparently, and never a fix?

It's probably overkill for you, but I have also used Padus DiscJuggler.  http://www.padus.com/  It's geared more towards replication.  You can burn many discs simultaneously--how many depends on the version.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

There are several free DVD / CD burning software are available. Some of them sound as expensive as Nero or burning applications can perform as well. Even if the software iTunes, Winamp, and Windows Media Player as the media players can burn music CDs, you probably know that most are very limited on what they can.

Pyro is good.  I still have it for burning comp CDs for home use.  It is very easy to (almost) match volumes between Phono recorded stuff and new CDs.  It is a little funky, but works.

But if you are serious, CD Architect.  If you don't have the cash, Sony has the studio version, which is the light version.  If it is like their other Studio versions it is missing better plug-ins and some of the bells and whistles.  It should be a good match w/ teh studio version of SoundForge, which gives stereo editing.  They run specials and it is worth picking up - even w/ studio Vegas for video/audio.

AT, do you have a link for that? I can't find a "light" version of CDA, and that might be perfect for me, since I never use plugins once I'm in 16-bit land anyway.

Anybody know anything about Sound Forge Audio Studio?

I found a copy of Sony Audio Studio 8 (an old version) on Amazon for 11 bucks. Since Audio Studio is the "lite" version of Sound Forge, and purports to burn Red Book CDs, I wonder if it comes with a "lite" version of CD Architect. If so, that might be an incredibly cheap tool for burning CDs.

Update: never mind. Sound Forge Audio Studio does not support CD indexing, making it nearly useless as an audio CD-burning application. Oh well, I thought I was onto something there. I wouldn't even recommend it as a cheap editor, as it only supports 16-bit files.

    Bit,

I only had the studio version of Vegas a few months before I got the full version.  I really haven't looked at the studio versions lately, since I have the full versions.  Looking at the Sony Creative Software it looks like they don't have a lite version of CD Architect.  The full version used to be bundled only w/ SF, and I think they had a lite version of the burner.

You can download a demo to see if anything works for you, of course.

Speaking of Pyro.... since I just built a DAW and used XP, my old (legal version of) Pyro will now work on it.

I'll have to try it out. As I recall, it was a bit difficult to use.... but that was back in the day.

Mayhap I can now figure it out.

If you're talking about basic data burning, it's hard to beat ImgBurn.
Not what you'd want to create audio CDs for duplication... but great for any basic CD/DVD data burning.
    Light footprint, solid, free...

    +1 for ImgBurn.

I have two DVD drives in my system and you can create an ISO image of a disc and then use ImgBurn to burn copies of it by launching two instances of it and brun the ISO file to both discs at the same time.
it is a great time saver for doing very short run type of duties for demos and such.

it also makes a great way to back up files and such as you mentioned.

I am using CD architect here as well and it is very powerful to create demo and master CDs for duplication.
