(D'oh! Thread #387) - How to save yourself some time when trying to record MIDI

If you can't record any MIDI notes while your track is armed, your VST is loaded and working, your channels are set up correctly, and you KNOW FOR A FACT your MIDI controller is working....

....you might consider checking to see if you have punch-in/punch-out activated.

I posted this so that I can refer to it again next week and maybe save 45 minutes the next time.  If it helps one other person, then between the two of us, I will have broken even!

Thanks for posting. I hope I won't need the reference again, but good to know it's here waiting.

Auto Punch has burned me a couple of times.  Saturday, I had a great track going and then realized that I wasn't recording when I saw that I wasn't seeing any audio graphics showing up on the monitor.

Yeah, I never had that issue in Cubase.  Not to compare, because maybe I just need to realize what visual indicators might be on.

Or maybe there's an improvement opportunity there for Sonar.

Yes, a "do what I intended and not what I set up the program to do" mode would be great.
