Yes, when we were talking last night about the clip-length bug, it occurred to me that sometimes you do need to start on a "zero measure". Like when you have a pick-up measure.
I typically prefer to think of the first whole measure as "measure 1". In Cubase I know I can set the beginning of the project to any measure number...such as "0" if the first measure is an incomplete bar. Or maybe "-1" in the event that I want a 1 bar count-in. Later when I render the project, I can simply set my left and right locators to the beginning of the pick-up, and the end result will begin on the first pickup note.
I have not looked at a score recently, but I remember some scores will show a measure number on each page, so that the conductor can reference a long passage without having to say "eighty bars before the coda..."
I'm curious; how does the industry typically notate a pickup measure and where would the "official count" begin?
