M Audio Project Mix I/O
Any opinions on this unit? I already have a Focus Sapphire 24DSP Pro. It has lightpipe on board, so I'm considering this to double as expansion I/O, as well as MAINLY as a control surface (could I use this as JUST a control surface, using the Sapphire as my main audio interface?). Should this do the trick? Using 8.5 PE, and considering upgrading to X1. Thanks.

That is always a crap shoot - you have to look at both units. W/O doing that, I would think it would work. Choose the M-Audio as your midi controller. As to audio, if the M-audio remembers settings you should (in theory) be able to route the inputs to the ADAT out - then hook those into the Saffire. Should work, if the MA remembers its settings w/o being hooked up to the computer. If not, I doubt your computer would handle two itnerfaces at once. Even if it does remember, there still might be problems. Sometimes ADAT ins won't get routed to the latency-free mixer, etc. So I would definately want to be able to send it back if it doesn't work as advertised for audio. @

And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.

i used this to record the 'Kettlefish' "Prime" album. i did a lengthy review on this item at the time, you can do a search bottom line: worked well, sounded great. a worthy product as far as i'm concerned.

you can hear low bitrate samples at some of those sites... maybe some are at least 256.... but none of that stuff sounds good to me anyway, once you turn it into a mp3

Hey ya'll thanks for the replies. Batsbrew, sorry, I haven't been getting the reply notifications, and I haven't been online the last few days. I will check out those samples, and get back to you. What I REALLY want to do is use this mainly for a control surface. (Could this be done through MIDI, without hooking up through Firewire?) As for Audio, it would be nice to be able to expand via ADAT, but I could just use this instead of the Sapphire if I needed more I/O. I have a couple of U/A 710's if I need critical preamping.
