IRQ Conflicts?

I finally found the root of the problem with a DAW I just built for a friend...

I was going crazy being unable to get his firewire to run correctly (wouldn't stay in record)... and I found a FAQ that mentioned possible conflicts with WLAN cards.... So I quickly disabled it and what do you know... Firewire runs like a bat out of.... system is fine.

...except no internet without enabling/disabling the wireless each time. that gets old fast! ;-)

So I looked again and what do you think I find? Both are set to IRQ 16 (sharing) and the ability to enable/disable automatic settings is greyed out as is the button to open it's settings... I tried everything I can think of, but neither of the devices (firewire port or WLAN card) will allow me to change the IRQ setting...? If ound some mention that some devices (drives) will not allow anything other than the automatic mode for settings...

Is there anything I can do about this shy of searching for a replacement for the WLAN card? The machine is too far from the port to reasonably install wire... the firewire port and associated audio interface (Focusrite Saffire Pro 40) are working too well to be willing to change! ;-)

Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated...

Thanks for listening...

You can try moving the cards to a different slot in the motherboard. Some boards assign IRQ based on slot location.

How far away is your PC from the router? I have a PC connected about 50 feet from the router ( cat 5 cable ) and working good ( no problema )

    Thanks for the ideas Gang...

I can't move to a different slot as they're both in the only available slot of their' type (pci vs pci-x)...

I'll look into the bios and see if I can change them there.... next time I get to that machine...
