Midi controller problem. please help!

I am new to sonar and i am running x1  and 8.5. I am using a Edirol PCR controller and i plug it in with a USB cable.  I have my sound going out through a m-audio fast track plugged in through a different usb port . I can get sounds from session drummer when i use the drum map, but not the controller.  When i open dimension pro i do not get any sound, but if i insert it as a midi track it shows it is registering but i do not get any sound. I got it to work a few days ago....but not quite sure how, can anybody help? i know i have a wrong setting but i have no clu where it is as i have tried everything.

Make sure you load a patch when you start Dimension Pro. The default is no sound. Also, you either need to have a MIDI track with the output set to the Dimension Pro or when you insert Dimension Pro to the synthrack add it as an instrument track.

"If I insert it as a MIDI track"  ???

That makes me doubt if you know how to use soft synths. You say you've tried everything - have you tried doing the tutorials? I wouldn't bet it's a controller problem at all.

Adding to Daves post: The input of the midi track should be your controller, output to DP. It's actually quite straight forward if only SONAR recognises the inputs of your soundcard.

The 1500 page pdf-manual you have is your friend in these basic things.
