Sonar X1: Create new stereo bus and assign audio track output to it

Last night I plugged in a new Cakewalk UA25EX and microphone into X1 excitedly. I was getting microphone input through the Master with no problems. But then I decided to route it via a new bus.

In Sonar X1 I right clicked in the busses pane and chose "Insert new stereo bus". I gave it a name "mybus".

Then, I clicked on my audio track. On the left hand side I clicked on the "output" which was currently set to "Master". It would not offer me the option of assigning the track's output to "mybus" - in fact it didn't even list "mybus" as an option.

I'm confused.. what was I doing wrong? Any ideas?

And you are sure that you clicked the out of your audio track? It should list all possible outs for that track. Is it possible that you accidentally clicked on a MIDI's track out.

I'll have another go tonight. I was pretty certain I was clicking on the output for the audio track. At any rate a MIDI track shouldn't go to Master. It's a bit of a mind shift having to hunt for track options on the left hand side of the screen when they used to be available in the track itself... I'm wondering if I'm not beginning to become a bit of an old 8.5.3 miser too..

I'm not saying it is a bug yet but it could be one. I tried and it listed the new buss even though I set it to none. I can't think of any reason it wouldn't.

You can insert a bus in many ways:
    1. Insert menu select Insert Stereo Buss
    2. In Console View - right click in a blank area of the bus pane
    3. In the Multi dock select the Bus menu and Insert Stereo buss

to direct the channel to a bus
Select the track you want to direct to a bus i
    1. In the Inspector - , Left Click the output widget and choose which ever bus you want to connect to.
    2. In track view Expand the track till you see the Output widget and again left click and choose the bus you want
    3. In Console View left click on the Output widget and choose the bus you want.

Thanks for your help guys. I think I did these things but it's entirely possible I did something wrong. I'll double check tonight and post my answer.

Mike are you thinking a buss wasn't made? That never occurred to me.

    Ontime,

Try the bus creation again.  Create a buss and name it  My bus.  Now on the audio track select new bus and you should see the bus name of "My Bus" listed in the output options.  If it doesn't show there is something wrong.   I know my list doesn't change some times so therefore, I see Bus 1 listed instead of what I name the bus.  Look for the Generic name of Bus and the number (Bus 1, Bus 2...)

    Peace

I think it is a bug.  It only seems to work in Console view.  So go to CV and assign it at the bottom of the strip.  Not in Inspector, I don't think it works there.

Hi all, I tried it again last night, and it worked, no hitches at all! I think I might have just been using it in one of its moods. It could be due to a number of factors - that it saw the UA25EX for the first time ever, or that I changed audio modes, I don't know.

What I do know is that if I create a stereo bus while playing back a track it won't appear as a valid audio track out until I stop playback. However that wasn't the issue I had the other night. Never fear, if I encounter the problem again I'll just restart Sonar X1.

    Thanks all!

Kinda sounds like you were selecting from the Inspector which possibly had a different Track or Buss selected at the time listing its outputs?
I have done it in the past, think I have a track Im working on up on the Inspector-be looking at a track in track view and it would be the buss on the Inspector cause it was the last thing I actually touched bringing it up/keeping it on the inspector.
    Make sense?
Where exactly were you making the selection from , Inspector on the left of Track View, Track View, Console View, etc...
