Missing Cakewalk FX Plugins

Hello all,

I'm new to X1 - haven't had a whole lot of time to play with it.  However, I did notice that I can't call up the Cakewalk FX Plugins.  When I drag and drop from the plug in window to the FX bin on my track, I get a window that says: "This plug-In is missing or improperly installed on your system, etc."

I did a clean re-install of X1 and that didn't help.  Then I installed an older version of Sonar on a different computer and the plug-ins were there.  So, I copied the shared plug-ins folder from the older version (Sonar 7) to the other computer with X1 and I still can't call them up.

Any suggestions??

Thanks.

I believe that most of the old FX plug-ins don't work on 64-bit Windows. Use the Sonitus plug-ins instead. That's probably why they gave them away for free a few months ago. When I do a VST scan I get an error message that FxChorus, FxEQ, FxDelay, FxFlange, FxReverb, and Studioverb2 won't work.

During the install you are given the option of a Recommended or Custom installation.  If you look at the list of to-be-installed items you may find that you did not install the plugs you wanted.  You can go back to the installation (just start the install.exe, and it will allow you to select any additional plugs you missed.  You only need to install the plugs, not X1.

Those plugins you copied from the Shared Plugins folder are DX plugins and copying them is not sufficient. they need to be regfistered and so they have a proper installer. Not like VST's where you can copy .dll files around the place. You can do a couple fo things one ioncludes a registry edit the other requires that you access the regserv32.dll (or 64 bit equivalent) to register the appropriate files in the registry.

You haven't mentioned which plugins specifiaclly or things like which operating system and whether its 32 or 64 bit.

there are some of the cakewalk FX spoecifically the Soundstage FX from the FX pack 3 that won't install in 64 bit X1 or 8.5 for that matter as its strictly a 32 bit DX plugin.

anyway - give us a bit more info as requested.

if you have a corrupt registry file causing the problem, constantly repeating the installtion is of no value. Also uninstalling SONAR without deleting the corrupt keys is also of no value as the keys are not corrected during the next installation.

Yeah, a bit OT from the OP, but I had to ask.   I still have that plug around here somewhere on a CD.  Do you find much value in the plug?   Is it clean, as compared to other delays/reverbs?

    Thanks

Doesn't work in x64 so don't use it (least ways not without a DX to VST wrapper and such).

Don't understand why off thread as the OP didn't mention which plugin/s or OS at all. I just mentioned that as a specific one that won't install in a 64 bit SONAR. The FX1 and 2 packs however will.

    Thanks.

I don't use them at all. In fact while I have everything installed (helps with helping folks to have default installation of everything SONAR) I don't use any CAKEWALK FX or Plugins anymore.

If ever I get a stable X1 I might try Prochannel. While I experiement with X1 (and only for the rest of this month) When work starts in Feb I'll be back on 8.5 with only some spare time dedicated to X1 from then on.

The soundstage plugin  (in 32 bit had some interesting aspects of it in locating fx left to right and front to back.

As for the others they're pretty ordinary by today's plugin quality. Only an opinion of course.

You're right.  Never gave it a thought about them being only 32-bit.  Were they ever upgraded to 64-bit?  I am working in 64-bit.

I still have the Sonitus suite plus the Waves Rennaisance pack.  I really don't NEED the Cake plugs.  It was more a question of why aren't they there.

However, I do find it odd that the default plug-in layout in X1 has the Cake Plugs listed in the folders even after you have chosen to install the 64-bit version.

    Thanks for the input.

Then what are the steps one should take to make available fxDelay, fxEQ, fxFlange in and X1 install?

I have it and it works fine with a DX to VST wrapper. I use the free DXshell.  Most of the old DX plugins can be wrapped and used in 64 bits X1 or any version of Sonar.

BTW once its wrapped you don't have to do it again as long as the wrapped version is on your disk.

I too am having this problem. I just installed X1 Producer 64bit on a new machine running Win7 64 bit. My old machine is running Producer 8.5 WinXp 32 bit and use alot of the Cakewalk Fx plugins. How can I install these plugins on my new 64 bit machine? I likme these plugins because they sound fine, and they come with a lot of presets.

If I cannot install these older Cakewalk Fx.. plugins, what plugins would you recommend that come with presets? I looked at the Sonitus plugins but they are missing a Chorus effect. Any help would be appreciated!

The FXReverb sounds great to my ears.  I use the Warm Cathedral preset all the time. Very nice and musical for a certain type of ambience I use on some instrumental pieces.

Some of those plug ins you listed should be still available in SONAR X1 x64. When you do the installation of X1, choose the Advanced option and make sure you select all the effects plug ins to be installed.

Some of the older FX plug ins wont be available in SONAR x64 because they are DirectX plug ins that haven't been ported over to work in native 64bit programs, such as SONAR 64bit.

However, you can install the 32bit version of SONAR and they all will work in the 32bit version of SONAR. The 32bit and 64bit version of SONAR can be installed on the same computer.

Finish your projects that have the effects not available in SONAR x64 in SONAR X1 32bit or the version of SONAR they were started in.
