Change tempo fails to move audio clips properly

When the tempo is changed, the start time of audio clips that don't start at 1:1:000 seems wrong. Let's say I have two audio clips of length 2sec, the first starting at 0 and the second one starting at 4sec, so there's a 2sec gap between the end of the first and the start of the second. The tempo is 120bpm. If I change the tempo to 60bpm (and check there's only one tempo value still), the first clip now starts at 0 and goes for 2sec, but the second starts at 8 sec and goes for 2 sec. So now the gap between clips is 6 sec.

It looks like the starting time of the clip is not shifted properly if it starts anywhere but time zero. If I bounce the clips to a single clip first, I get the expected behavior, meaning the original sound (including time gaps) isn't changed. I don't want to do the bounce on all my tracks because it is destructive editing and I'm not ready to commit yet.

This is not just a problem in X1, the same thing happens in 8.5.3.

Can anyone confirm that this happens and seems bizarre?

Cheers, Peter.

Before and after tempo change...this can't be the way it's meant to work!

By default, Audio clip start times follow Musical (MBT) time. If you want audio start times to follow absolute time when tempo changes are made, you need to go to clip properties, and change the timebase to Absolute (SMPTE).

check your Clip properties and your audio stretching tab.
when you enable looping it will give you the option beats in clips.

Hey, that's it! I didn't know about the timebase thingy. Seems a little counter-intuitive, because the start time is, by default, locked to SMPTE, but the length is not. Seems like mixing SI and imperial units :)  However, that fixes my problem. Many thanks brundlefly.

    Cheers, Peter.
