Red Cicles Next to Recorded Layers - Layers Won't Play
I've never seen this. I loop recorded a couple of takes and all the takes except for the last, shortened version have a small red circle or symbol next to it and they won't produce any audio. The last take that didn't finish through the loop plays. Any help?

That's right isn't it? Not at my daw right now but I think that's how it works when you do multiple takes. All takes are muted except for the last.

Well I've been doing this all day and haven't seen this yet but let's say that's so. How do I play them now? Previously they would all play and I had to manually mute each track I didn't want to hear. Again how do i now get them to play?

You see the little M and S? Click the M to unmute. If that doesn't work, right click on the clip and click on clip mute/unmute. You should be able to hear them all play at once.

Default key mapping now to unmute is 'K'. This is the behavior when you go into Edit | Preferences | Project | Record and select 'Overwrite'. From the online help: SONAR loops between the loop start and loop end time, allowing you to record one take on each pass. SONAR creates a clip for each take. You have three choices for where these clips are stored: ● All clips can be recorded in Sound on Sound mode and stored in a single track, where they are stacked on top of one another. ● All clips can be recorded in Overwrite mode in a single track, where each take is successively muted except the last one.

Wow. Thanks for the help. I'm not sure what I changed and have been recording all day but this is the first I've seen of this. The little 'm' didn't have any effect so I both unmuted from the clip and pressed 'K' to unmute. Thanks again for the fast replies. There has to be a way to loop record without the tracks being muted because I've been doing it all day. What did I change?

I 'think' if you right click on the record button your record loop options come up. I 'think'. Not sure, I'm not at my daw now. Hope this helps.

The parameter changed is the one I identified above - Recording Mode. You may have accidently hit a shortcut key or something. If you really want to hear all of the takes, change it from 'Overwrite' to 'Sound on Sound'. I leave it on 'overwrite' (like you have it now) during recording. Then, to compare takes, I unmute all of 'em and use the Ms/Ss to go back & forth between takes to choose which one I want to keep. It's very handy.

Bub is correct. Right clicking on the record button quickly takes you to the Recording Mode dialog box. I didn't know that...

Yeah that's right Bub and 'Auto Punch' has an option to 'mute previous take' but that's unchecked. Weird. The only option, that's always been checked is store take in a single track. Help file simply says to mute unmute using the little 'm' and 's' buttons.

But your recording mode was on 'overwrite', correct? I believe that's what is creating this behavior. There are several different mute settings & priorities... One is at the clip level, by selecting the clip & pressing K. The other is muting/soloing the different layers/takes, by using the little Ms & Ss. The clip mute takes precedence, i.e., if you see the little red circle, the clip won't play even if you press the 'S'. Hope this helps.

Hey Thanks Bub, Shawn, shawn I did indeed have it on 'overwrite' and must have previously had it on 'sound on sound' which like you posted doesn't mute each take. I actually prefer the overwrite setting with 'K' as a short cut key. Either way that's cleared up for now Thanks again.
