Do Your MIDI PRV Settings Default to 'Show Velocity'?

I can't get show velocity to stop showing velocity in PRV. Tried saving screen sets many times but it defaults to 'show velocity' in PRV and MIDI menu.

    Bump.

Am I the only one experiencing this? Every time I open the PRV the velocity tails are shown. Sometimes the 'show velocity' box is checked other times not. In the MIDI menu drop down I can uncheck 'show velocity' but it will be rechecked when I reopen the file. Unlocked screen sets. Tried a bunch of different things still can't get velocity to NOT show in the PRV.

    Anyone else?

It's like I've set it up in preferences but can't find anything like it in preferences. Just tried it again, saved a file with all the 'show velocity' unchecked in the 2 places I could find, the PRV and the track MIDI menu, and when reopened the boxes are checked again.

Sorry to be a bother and I know it's still Sunday morning here but is there anyone willing to test this out?

Just open a project and check the MIDI menu in the track view. Is 'show velocity' checked? Can you uncheck it, close project and have it remain unchecked when you reopen project?

When double clicking a MIDI does the PRV open with 'show velocity no matter what setting you choose?

Just want to know if it's my set up or universal.

    Thanks.

Larry - yes mine works the same as yours.  This parameter is not saved, and seems to be a hard coded default.

Thanks SOO much for confirming that. I thought I was going nuts. Do you usually work with the velocities shown? And it's no big deal? Or do you, like I, need to turn them off each time.

Larry - I've always let the velocities show like the default - and maybe others leave it that way too.  But there are other parameters like this one that don't seem to be saved either globally or by project.  Snap settings is one example.  I would bet that their intention was to have this be a saved setting and I think if we remind them they'll fix it - eventually...  I think they just missed a line of code that sets the global or project parameter to the current one.

Yes, same. Slightly annoying. I usually turn them off. By the way, I think you're talking about "velocity", not "velocity tails". AFAICS, tails are only for drum tracks. Although trying it just now, I can't see what turning "velocity tails" on and off does.

    Cheers, Peter.

Hiya, Humble - And thanks, PeterMc, for clearing up the velocity versus velocity tails thing - That was confusing me a bit when I was trying to understand the issue being brought up.

Looks to me like velocities show up as default no matter what you do.  The menu to show or not show velocity is meant as a choice you make as a choice for a specific editing session.

But I can't imagine working with the velocities not showing.--Why wouldn't you want them displayed?  Notes and their velocity values are the basic data being worked with and edited in the PRV.---?

    Thanks Randy,

I've always found them distracting and not what I work with when editing MIDI, unless I'm editing velocities. Generally I'm checking for duration, position, clip beginnings, ending, note changes etc. and may play with velocities at some point but, (and I know you're not making the opposite case) I'd like the option to turn them on when I'm ready to do so.

Is there any reason that setting, whichever way you prefer it and for whatever reason, shouldn't be savable in a template to your liking?

AH - I have the impression you don't work with the Controller Pane on.  I hate that to be off, because then the velocities are superimposed over the notes--ack, can't work with that.  I always have the Controller Pane on, and if I only want to see the notes to work with them - I just grab the divider and temporarily collapse the pane so it's not on the screen.

Pretty sure that'll fix you up, HN.

You're right I don't work with the controller pane on. Turned it on and really don't understand it nor is there any discernable data displayed just a blank controller pane. More to learn.

Oh my!  You're missing out on the power of the PRV, HN - Here, I whipped out a silent video for you and uploaded it to You Tube.  There's a bit of text, read that, watch the short vid, and if you have questions, post and I'll answer:

Well good deal, Larry - Glad the vid is an eye opener.  I did whip through it fast - Keep an eye on what I'm clicking.  For instance, when I add the new pane for Modulation, I click the little Plus mark in the existing velocity pane in order to see it.

I'm working on projects today, but will check email periodically, trying to answer any questions that may come up for you, as time permits.
