Oh Craigslist

I don't know why I have such high expectations.....I've met 3 people, through transactions/musicians wanted who I would call close friends.  I've got some pretty decent deals.   However.....I've posted like 7 items on there and priced them about 10% below ebay's pricings, and only got 1 response, and that guy turned into a 'no show'

Ugh----I realize part of it is probably where I live, Iowa.

Okay, done with rant.

    Craig has a list?

Craig, who's on it?  We want answers.

That's about the reality of it.

I've had some gear listed on it for MONTHS.... local pickup only since I don't feel like packing a Marshall cab and shipping it.

I've had one guy interested.... got an email today stating he wants it and due to money issues related to family health problems, .....yadda yadda.... He'll be delayed a month in getting it.... but he still says he wants it...

No skin off my back either way.... if and when it sells, I'll be happy..... until then, I dust it off every now and then.

I've sold alot of guitars and music and even non-music gear on CL.
At first I hated it ..............

But now CL works great for me but it took some time to get a good sales formula.

    1. If you want it to sell................10% under E-Bay isn't gonna do it. You got get down and dirty, then things will move. Remember this is a bad economy and people are looking for solid deals in which they want to feel they really gained something of value. If you need top dollar go to E-Bay and plan on shipping worldwide.

    2. Be very descriptive and have good pics with your ads. Lack of info and no pics kill the listing instantly.

    3. Keep your ad upbeat you catch more flies with honey.

    4. Require a phone number with all replies, this cuts back on spammers and phishing.

    5. No phone #......do not repond , no matter what hold your ground. you'll save your E-Mail account and alot of headache.

    6. Respond quickly to inquiries, even mention you will do so in the ad.

    7. I list everything for sale or best offer.  Lowballers suck, I know,  but you gotta understand people.......they want to haggle and dicker, its fun and they feel in control.

    8. People get easily annoyed if you post the same thing, same price over and over ........This will lead to constant flagging as people grow to recognize your listing style. So change up the ads, stay upbeat and cut your prices when you can.

    9. Remember what I feel is the "A" #1 rule of getting business these days...............................................$$$$$$$$$$$$$

    Hey just my 2cents

Good tips there, Zungle.  I sold a guitar on there, and bought a R2R tape deck which turned out to be quite a bargain even at the sellers asking price.

And this reminds me: I just got a new DSLR, and have to list my Nikon D40 on there.  Thanks for the reminder

I generally use Ebay and things tend to sell consistently and for a decent price. This cabinet was too big and I wanted to sell it local.....

It doesn't hurt my feelings to see it set around and collect dust. I might even call the music stores and see if they take trades and use it to upgrade my acoustic guitar.

Great tips, Zungle.  I'm going to drop some prices on stuff.   I usually try to toss some humor in my listings or give some great info.  I figure most people are like me, if something sounds cool, the first thing they do is check it out on ebay, then google it.

It's all the flakes thru CL that are pretty annoying, tho.  Friday night we were supposed to meet a dude to buy some M Audio monitors, and the guy no-shows.  I call him, and he says 'oh I gotta call you back in 2 minutes', then sends a text saying he's not interested.

Oh well, the night wasn't a total loss, we grabbed a good meal at Chilli's and went to the...hahah.....Coffee House.......
