(solved) X1 Automation question - Where did I see this?

Lets say in one section you'd like to lower the volume of a track using an automation envelope.  The below image is what I'm talking about.  I could have sworn I saw a video showing how to do this in X1 in two steps.  1) Selecting the range and 2) dragging the envelope - would add 4 nodes automatically at the selection begining and end.  For the life of me I can't find that video or how to do this.  I now have to enter 4 nodes manually, and since they don't seem to be "snapped" into place I have to align them manually.  (btw - why don't new nodes get snapped into place if you have snap on?)

Did I dream this? I'm hoping someone can show me how.

    Help file

    1. Highlight the time range in the ruler.
    2. Make sure the edit filter is set correctly
    3. Make sure the smart tool is active
    4. Towards the middle top half of the clip, left click and drag down

Thanks FBB - That doesn't seem to do what I want.  I don't want to create or modify a clip envelope.  I'm trying to modify a Track Volume envelope.

    1. Using the Smart tool, position your mouse away from the envelope so that it turns into a cross (without arrows) and then click/drag to create a selection.
    2. Position your mouse near the top of the track so that it turns into a cross that has arrows, then click/hold to create nodes and now drag up/down to adjust that segment of the envelope.

Step 2 of FBB's instructions. Make sure the Edit Filter is set correctly. If you set it for Volume it should work fine.

Don't fix it in the mix ... Fix it in the take!

Scott - That works!!!  Thank you!

What I wasn't doing was after selecting the area> I didn't click and hold.  I clicked and dragged right away.  I've got to click and hold to create the nodes, and then drag a second later.

And - FBB - yours works too - I didn't catch the "left click" thing - that also creates the nodes.

    Thanks FBB and Scott!

Try turning on the "Volume" envelope and then select the pencil and 'draw' away.

    Is this what you mean?

Jonny3d - no, I'm just trying to adjust a section of a track that may need an overall boost or cut.  And I wanted to add 4 nodes automatically - at exact postitions.  I've spent so much time doing it the old way - this will save me a bunch of time.
