Booty Call
I don't want to become a nattering Nabob of negativity but I just paid a visit to S8.5.3 to set up a live band session as a back up in case the X1 fixes in X1b aren't comprehensive enough for me. I added a couple of new layouts and bound the to 8 and 9 (I already had a lot of custom layouts bound to the number keys). I set up a key binding to pop up a floating User 1 tool bar and gained a bit more vertical room because the top bar is just high enough for the one row of widgets. You know, that 'ole girl wasn't all that bad lookin'. If I could bring the Pro Channel with me and drop it in the FX bin, I might have just put my hat and coat back in the closet.

Have you considered using VX64 in the fx bin? I never used it but I heard it was all that just a year (or two) ago. :-) I'm already having trouble remembering the old commands as I go back to 8.5 to do actual work... the practice time in X1 is making me SONARphrenic. :-) Have fun!!! best, mike

A paid upgrade to get Pro Channel into 8.53? Before you put your Hat and Coat back in the closet, make sure there isn't a new pair of strange boots under the bed.

Of course 8.5.3 wasn't so bad. Frankly it was/ IS pretty good. But aside from that ... There are some truly great 3rd party plugins out there that are as good, some much better, than Pro Channel. I do like Pro Channel in some ways, but it wasn't a panacea for me. Useful, yes. Very. But I still find 3rd party stuff to do more and in a way that is better at visual feedback. You probably have some good ones already too ;)

Oh no ChuckC ... don't listen to a single word of the negativity. John's positive review is all you need to know. Nothing else here to see. You just put 8.5 to rest and go right out and buy X1 right away. Nothing to see here. Move along. Everything else you have read is a lie. Don't pay attention. Just listen to John and Desertgirl, and Computer Music magazine. Don't think for yourself.

lol, the complete opposite has happened when I've got back to 8.53 Everything is so much more difficult for me to do. It's kinda like "I used to do that?" hehe

mike_mccue Have you considered using VX64 in the fx bin? I never used it but I heard it was all that just a year (or two) ago. mike I can tell you've never used it. ;) The control knobs disappear and you can't tell where your settings are at. And, if you use the delay function, it won't save your settings and you get a 1second delay when you re-open your project. But don't listen to me. Just listen to all the positive 'reviews' out there.
