Insert Soft Synth options

Hi,

In the "Insert Soft Synth" dialog box, there are the (mutually-exclusive) "Instrument Track" and "MIDI Source" options.
Choosing "Instrument Track" gives me one single track that has the synth output and MIDI input combined.  Choosing
"MIDI Source" seems to give me all of the above, plus another MIDI track whose output is the soft synth.

I have tried both methods with the (3rd party) "Steven Slate Drums 3.5" vstplugin with no problems, but I want to
understand what the advantages/disadvantages are of each method?  Could someone elaborate?  Sorry if this is a noob
question - I'm new to Sonar X1.

    In the case of session drummer if you choose multiple audio tracks for your output, you can assign each drum to it's own audio track for seperate EQing and effects etc, plus keep it all grouped nicely in a track folder.
