x1 DVD copy protected?

Hi,

I just received my boxed version of X1 Producer (I'm in the UK and it was lost in the mail). I always make a backup copy of all my software, but the X1 DVD (DVD #1 the main program one) keeps producing errors.

Is this disc copy protected? Has anyone made a backup copy of it?

I'll email support, but I'm sure they have more important things to worry about.

thanks

PS - I'm using a dual layer DVD, I'm sure that's what the original is.

The copy protection is very basic... it is the X1a patch... you might as well just plan on downloading the whole install if you find you ever need it.

It must be able to be done because you see it on torrent sites everywhere.

You also should be able to download it so technically you'll always have a backup anyway.

Thanks for the quick replies. I registered my serial number, but there is no download link. I don't think you automatically get a "download" version when you buy the boxed one (although that would make perfect sense).

PS - my email to Support at cakewalk.com got bounced!

hmmm - it seems it's my DVD burner. It's been working fine, maybe it's only broken for dual layers.... (?)

Your not alone. I have the same problem here! I've got 3 DVD burners (in different machines) and none of them can burn a Dual Layer. They all say they can, and try - but none do.

I backup all my DVD's to external hard drives - maintaining the folder structure. Very few programs require the DVD to actually install. All my DVD's just get placed in a safe/firebox for safe keeping and I install from the external drives.

Don't fix it in the mix ... Fix it in the take!

Ah, I guess the caveat is if you buy a boxed copy from a vendor it doesn't include the download?

    Is that what you did?

I bought the download and the paid extra for the box.

    best regards,
    mike

Yeah, that's what I did Mike.

Anyway, I've got a backup copy now - so that's good. Now about that drive.....

as for your drive it maybe able to read dual layer.. but doesn't mean it can write them (unless you know otherwise of course)

if you want to get a new drive, and ti's a desktop you could always try ebuyer.com scan.co.uk

Yeah - this drive has worked fine in the past (writing dual layer DVDs) - maybe it was having a bad day.

I've got two drive in my PC (for easier disk copies), but I still might replace it if it's gone bad. As you say, they're cheap.
