Midi FX problem - S1 Essential (probably fixed - my fault)

I created a few bars on a midi track, then decided to try midi fx (quantize).

If I drag the fx to a midi clip, 'fx' shows on the clip and the plugin opens up on screen. Somehow, I can't seem to delete the effect, and it only affects the bar it's in. This is confirmed by the staff view showing the notes in that bar blue.

When I drag the midi effect to the track, it shows up in the fx bin in the track inspector (is that what it's still called?), but when I double click the effect there, I get this message:
Cakewalk Missing Plugin Standin.
Plugin: quantize
This plugin is missing or improperly installed on your system....
.........................

Now, I can delete this plugin.
I have Vista, 2 core with 4 gig ram and I recently set up "music" as a separate user account, but loaded S1 in this user mode.
Very odd. Am I doing something wrong?

Edit: It seems that the notes turn blue just to indicate I have selected that bar, although the fx still seem to affect just that bar.

Edit 2: I was trying to place the midi fx in the audio track inspector, I just noticed a tag at the bottom for the midi one. Duh!
