Punch In not 'seamless' ... Question

I'm working a project and I was laying a bass track down... A few mistakes so I used the punch in to correct them... Snap to Grid is set at sixteenth... I dragged the curser the short distance on the timeline and set my punch points... I then deleated that clip event... set the now time to a couple measures before so I could have a good flow/feel... All this was done in the same session so all settings were identical... Success with punch in recording but..... I can hear a faint click where the punch in recording starts. Overall, when playing all the tracks it's not noticable but when I solo the track to eq it I can hear it... Shouldn't it be seamless? Smooth? Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks, Billy

Setting the clips to start/stop at zero crossings helps but what I like to do when there's a click like that is just grab the top corner of the clip and drag it in for a very very very short fade-in or fade-out as needed.

If you go to Transport>Record options and chose overwrite, it'll delete the stuff for you. If you have sound on sound chosen and manually delete, I can see that causing a click. Also, I think in the audio options there's a box to "always cut at zero crossings" or somesuch. I have that checked, and my (frequent) punches are seamless.

Better a crust in peace than a banquet in a house of contention.

Thanks guys... I already have my record options to 'overwrite' so I guess I didn't need to deleat the clip... yea? That could be what was causing the click... As far as 'Audio Options' set at cut at zero crossing, I couldn't find that link/command... Can you tell me how to get there? Thnks O G...And for now I'll use Jhughs advice and try to pull back the corners just a smidge... Hopefully that should correct the click in that project without me having to record it over again...

Digital audio cannot be interupted when the wave is not at the zero crossing. Doing this will and can results in pops and clicks.
Its best to use fast/short fades and fade in and out the punch in to the other clips on each side of them

I find to punch in a few mistakes with bass or guitar it's easier and quicker for me to do this:

1- clone the track so your input and settings are the same.
2 - delete the data in the new track
    3- record the new part(s)
4- edit it / them to size at zero crossings with the mouse drag.
5- drag and drop it on top of the mistake. Helps if tracks are adjacent.

As said make sure overwrite is selected.
magnify the tracks so you can see the wave forms and zero crossings.
The beauty of this is you can move it a little if you don't like the timing and the original is still hiding underneath.  I do this without fussing with audio snap etc. Snap to grid will make it hard to be fluid.
