Have you ever re-written your own song?

Because I know we're all influenced by our style, right? I am? I had an idea come to me last night? And I was really excited? And then I realized, it was 3 other songs I'd written? LOL! I'm still working with it, because I love it? But I'm trying to make it "not those songs..." But it's own song.

I mean you're playing it, and humming it? And loving it :-) and then you realize you can change the words, keep the chords and melody? And it's a song you've already written? "That" is what happened, LOL!

Yes, of course. In the pursuit of songwriting, attempting to craft a better song, why would anyone want to keep the first draft and call that a finished tune? Wait, that's not your topic.....

I see what you're talking about in this instance.... a bit different from what I was saying. So you take the ideas... melody and chords etc from a song YOU have already written, change up the groove, throw in some new words and waaa laaa... instant new song. Sure, that's fair game. Since you wrote the original tune, you can not plagiarize yourself... it's simply a newer version of YOUR song.... not like writing from scratch, but still being creative.

Listen to Bob Dylan, or more recently Taylor Swift..... I think that's what they do.... If it worked for them, why not for you?

    All the time.

And today I was humming a pretty cool tune, trying to figure out what it was. Finally realized it's one I wrote, but I have no idea which one (w/o words, it's a little harder to remember.)  Now I'll have to listen to SC to see which one it was.

But I forgot the tune by now anyway.  Oh well.  It WAS pretty.  lol

Janet, I remember you sending one to me that was pretty close to something else you wrote, and I'll never forget the tune that you put my guitar track in the wrong song, and it fit pretty well...except for one wrong phrase... that one was funny when we figured out what had happened.

Yeah I used the same music and rewrote the lyrics to a song 3x once. They all sucked. Now it's an instrumental
