Interface Causing Blue Screen of Death?

Hey guys,

So I have a frustrating problem on my hands. I recently bought the Fast Track MKII. Well, every now and then I get the BSOD whenever there's a slight hang up with the interface. The BSOD actually happens quite randomly, so it's hard to pinpoint exactly what is causing it, but I am thinking the MKII is somehow messing something up. Here's the information of the most recent crash:

"Problem signature:
  Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
  OS Version: 6.0.6001.2.1.0.768.3
  Locale ID: 1033

Additional information about the problem:
  BCCode: 9f
  BCP1: 00000003
  BCP2: 867F0C80
  BCP3: 868E9330
  BCP4: 84F9EDE0
  OS Version: 6_0_6001
  Service Pack: 1_0
  Product: 768_1

Files that help describe the problem:
  C:\Windows\Minidump\Mini011411-01.dmp
  C:\Users\Nick\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-62259-0.sysdata.xml
  C:\Users\Nick\AppData\Local\Temp\WER781B.tmp.version.txt"

Aside from the BSOD, I also have something else you guys may be able to help me with. My computer, whenever the MKII is plugged in, uses the MKII for it's audio output (so the main volume controls control the volume of what's coming out of the interface). Every so often, it switches itself on me, and even when the MKII is plugged in, it reverts to it's regular ol' headphone jack.

I don't know if this is the place for this, but this is all very annoying. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

To find out what is causing the BSOD have a look HERE

It's written for XP but it's very similar for Vista and Windows 7. It won't fix the issue but you'll know exactly what is causing it.

Can't help with the MKII problem, sorry.

I bought a Fast Track Ultra last year. I installed the (then) latest drivers (Windows 7, 64 bit). Right after the first reboot, my system blue screened. Many people with a very similar set-up had/have no issues at all. After a few more blue screens I returned the interface and got a MOTU instead.
Unfortunately, I never figured out what the problem was.
I would try re-installing the drivers, and I would try a different USB port. Avoid external USB hubs.

have a look at the IRQ's see if they are the same as the gfx card ones or network ones.. or anything that POLLS or is timing critical.

I've had an ozone myself for years.. but sadly have stopped using it due to m-audios inability to update their drivers for 3 months. Oh well, they won't be getting my money again.

    BSOD cause: 0x0000009F: DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE

"A driver is in an inconsistent or invalid power state. Typically occurs during events that involve power state transitions, such as shutting down, or moving into or out of standby or hibernate mode"

Fast Track MKII: powered by USB—no power adapter required

Maybe you should try by turning OFF power handling for USB ports:

Click on "Start" and then right-click on "My Computer."
    1. Click on "Properties" and then on the "Hardware" tab.
    2. Half-way down on the right, click on "Device Manager."
    3. Click the "plus" sign in front of "Universal Serial Bus Controllers."
    4. Double-Click on the first "USB Root Hub" (not USB 2.0 Root Hub).
    5. Click on the "Power Management" tab.
    6. Uncheck the box that says "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power."
    7. Click "OK" and repeat for all other "USB Root Hubs."
    8. Finally, close all and go back to the desktop.

and checking if the device gets enough power (max 500mA / port):

Click on "Start" and then right-click on "My Computer."
    1. Click on "Properties" and then on the "Hardware" tab.
    2. Half-way down on the right, click on "Device Manager."
    3. Click the "plus" sign in front of "Universal Serial Bus Controllers."
    4. Double-Click on the first "USB Root Hub" (not USB 2.0 Root Hub).
    5. Click on the "Power" tab.

Also, have you tried by turning off antivirus software and/or firewall software (if running)?

SOME USB connected devices should not just be powered off or disconnected when finishing using.  You should use the "Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media" option to Stop the device BEFORE disconnection or power off.

This may not fix them all but will help some.  In addition, on some devices if this is not used, the next time you try to use it, it won't work as the device status will be corrupted in Windows.  When this happens you have to connect the device (powered on) then go to the Device Manager and uninstall the "unknown device" in the USB section - RIGHT click on the entry for the device to highlight it and LEFT click "Uninstall" (do not uninstall the drivers unless you want to reinstall them too).  Physically disconnect the device, restart the PC and after Windows finishes starting, connect the device and Windows should detect and reinstall it.  From that point on, use the Safely Remove Hardware and eject media before removing.

I have an MAudio Fastrack Ultra 8R and I use that function before I power it off.
