jump to Windows 7 - app installation

Hello All-

Well, my XP box has finally gave up the ghost. I will be shopping for a new computer withing the next couple days, and am a bit apprehensive about being able to install my music-related applications into Windows 7 64-bit. Here they are:

Sonar 8   8.00
Pyro 5  5.00
EZDrummer
Melodyne UNO 1.5
RealStrat
Firewire 410 driver

[I have already asked about Sonar on the Sonar forum]

Any observations, opinions or suggestions welcome!

I'm understanding that most of it will run, but you need to run it in the 32bit emulation mode.

You can always set up a dual boot partition (don't ask me how) and run XP in one of them just for the music stuff.

Pyro 5 is the only one which may not work, but i bet it does. you'll need to d/l a new driver for the Firewire 410 from here
XP emulation mode only comes with Win 7 Ultimate, and apparently is no good for audio work, but other than that, using Sonar 8 x64 and then the bitbridge to the other apps if they are not native x64 is the way to go.

    Hi Rbecker,

I haven't looked back since I installed Win 7 64-bit on my DAW in anticiation of loading up Sonar X1. To my mind it's the best OS from Microsoft yet. As stable and as quick as XP yet loads up quickly and has a lot more useful backup and recovery features, plus much better networking.

Plan the upgrade properly and go for it I say

I recently bought a new Win 7 64-bit computer, even though my old one is running fine and will be my studio machine from now on.
But I loaded SHS 6 on the new one just to see if it will work when the inevitable happens to the old box.
Used the 32-bit version and it ran great. All the included soft synths and effects I tried worked.
Forgot about the 'run as admin' thing, so I'll have to review that fix if/when i'm relegated to using the new machine.

    Everything is better with pie.

I can't say if you'll have trouble or not but if you don't I'll guess that
    you're going to really like Win7 64bit.

I had no issues other than having to wait for drivers and
the video/audio sharing the same IRQ.

I'd update Sonar too. If memory serves me wasn't it up to 8.5.3?
