Shadow Lurker (Subtitle: Response to Robby's Post) (Blues??)
So, I was lurking in the shadows of the Cakewalk Forum yesterday and came across Robby's posting about those who just lurk and do not participate in the forum. It was with interest that I read Robby's comments and all of the responses --- each having some validity. I read but only lurked and did not respond. After thinking about the comments for a while, I got silly and a little ditty popped into my head. This also lead to a revelation --- another reason to lurk. That reason would be inspiration. With all the knowledge and talent on this forum, the ideas exchanged can lead one to a path that they might not have thought of traveling. This is just a silly song and was done in a hurry (I'm begging off on the quality) so that it would be relevant while Robby's post was still up. However, in spite of that, I hope it gives you a bit of a chuckle. Thanks for the idea Robby. Shadow Lurker http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_music.cfm?bandID=963481 Freddy J

Shadow Lurker... Of a charcoal ship, trying to give the light the slip. It was weird when it started because it seemed like things were a little out of sink or something? But then when the walking bass came in, it gelled. A sunshine avoider, a shadow lurker LOL! I could hear this playing in a "gentlemen's club?" with a girl workin the pole... (chicken to the bone)

Nice blues boogie. No one on the planet could resist groovin on this, unless their are deaf or at least 3 days dead. That backbeat is infectious. The rhythm section on this is just so present all the vocals and guitar have to do is not suck. And this definiately does NOT suck. Well played, well sang. Why is everybody so much better at this stuff than I am?

Hey Freddy!! The recording itself seems kind of "lo-fi" - not sure if that was intentional or not because it kind of fits the song. But the song itself it cool and that's a nice groove. Oh and I love the picture on your Soundclick page!

Very imaginative use of the forum for inspiration. What I want to know is if it turns out my next tune is called " How Bapu learned to mind his own business" was I inspired by the forum or did I steal the idea ? ;)

Hey Robby. I hope that you didn't mind my spinning off from your post. Ya -- "the boys" were kinda wandering around with their notes during the "call to order" (sort of old style Blues fashion --- that's why I don't call it an intro). May be we should just call it being loose (LOL). Great graphic on your second response Robby. Chicken to the bone --- hmmmm . Thanks Daryl! You are most kind and I appreciate the kind comments but I do have to disagree with you. I have listened to some great stuff that you have put out! Why thank you Janet. You are most kind! Thanks Scotty and my goodness haven't you been productive in putting out some terrific stuff. I know because I have been lurking around the forum . Thanks for taking the time to listen and for the kind comments James. Hi Dave. I have to be honest --- I don't have the skill, talent, or knowledge to intentionally try to make a song hi or lo fi (but I am trying to gain the knowledge - lol). What I was trying to go for was a small room or a more one-on-one feel and I guess that my attempt resulted in a lo-fi feel. Oh well, nothing ventured nothing gained. If only I knew what I was doing!.?*%# Thanks for the listen and feedback -- I appreciate it. Oh ya, thanks for noticing the picture. My son did it up (says the proud father). It is supposed to be Freddy J and his musical influences (the Freds from that silly story that I did several weeks ago). Hello Mike. Louisiana, Piedmont, Chicago, Texas -- all the Blues all sound good to me. Thanks for the feedback. Robby not only has talent musically but a gift for generating responses. Thanks for the kind words Gary and thanks for noticing the picture that my son did (repeats the proud father -- see comments to Dave above). Hi Paulo. No it wasn't intentional -- I was going for something else but ended up with the lo-fi ( see comments to Dave above). Thanks for taking the time to listen and for the feedback. I cant wait to hear your new song --- maybe you were inspired to steal the idea??? Freddy J

That weird disjointed intro gets your attention before you settle in. Clever lyrics and a great shuffle. I'd like to boost the guitars in the upper mids and highs, but that's just my old ears. Well done! Mark

Thanks Mark. A bunch of years ago (a whole lotta bunch), I was listening to a Blues group of old timers that was playing the county fair. Every time they would come back from break, they would all start playing something (not necessarily together) until after a few seconds it would blend into a great driving, rhythmic song. I talked to one of them and he called that beginning a "call to order". He said when playing the southern Blues circuit of the 1950's and early '60's, it was sometimes hard to get the audience back. So many of the groups had some kind of call to order to get the audience attention before taking on the song. I thought that was a great story and kind of a neat idea.

Really cool tune Freddy. Really enjoyed it.I have to admit, I do a lot of shadow lurking and listening in the songs forum. I don't type so well so often my intentions are to listen and leave comments. Unfortunately a good percentage of what really happens is I just sit back and enjoy the music. Always a great diverse listening experience.

Lurker, here. I have lurked more than respond lately. Sometimes ya feel like a responder and sometimes you don't. I have had a lot of music in my head and been working on it. Sometimes listening to others' music kills my head ideas. Wierd, huh? Well, I'm listening now and I really like this Freddy. You really have it going, buddy!

Hi Larry. Hey, being an old time guy --- I have to like the old time Blues. Thanks for the kind words. "Bring out the JD" --- don't mind if I do :>) Thank you James! I just couldn't find Baldhead Fred to play that harp --- I think that he was lurkin' around somewhere. Hey Grant. There is so much good stuff on this forum that it is hard to comment on everything. I know that I certainly have expanded my interest in various genre while lurking aroung the forum. Thanks for taking the time to listen and commenting. "Sometimes I lurks and responds... and sometimes I just lurks..." ---- and that's how it should be. Thanks Frank. Hi Vicente. Thanks for listening and the kind words. Hello Rick. A live Blues band and a glass 'o Bass and life is good. Thanks for your encouragement! Hey Warren. Wierd --- naw that's not wierd. That's distraction. Climb back into your head and start pulling out those ideas. You have been putting out some great stuff and have been involved in some terrific collab's and I want to hear more!! Thanks for the good words. Freddy J
