Can anyone comment on the M-audio Firewire 410?

I'm considering purchasing an M-audio Firewire 410 for my home DAW. I was just wondering if anyone here has or had used one of these in their setups and what they thought about it.

m-audio doesn't make them any more, that's one thing I'd worry about a little bit.  I don't know what kind of driver support they have.  I'd check the website to be sure they have good drivers for your OS.

at one time they were decent soundcards, I don't remember a lot of people having a lot of problems with them.

    Thanks, Reece.
Yeah, I checked the M-audio website and they have updated drivers for them including W-7. I'll be running XP-SP3 on my DAW. I read many reviews on-line and they were very favorable. It seems to have everything I was looking for in an interface at a very reasonable price.

then i'd go for it!  the only other thing I'd worry about would be if it is used (I'm assuming it's used since they don't make them any more) that it will fully function.  Most of the time stuff on ebay works like they advertise, but occassionally you get a liar or someone who didn't know about the broken functions.

Yeah, I checked the M-audio website

You may want to double check the M-audio forums...
I had a ProFire 610... it was as productive as a black box filled with sand.
Even with known issues, M-Audio didn't update the driver for over 18 months! (Not even a beta).

    Thanks for that tip N0rd,
Sorry to hear about your experiences with M-audio. I was looking for this kind of input for the FW410. I did search but didn't find any complaints c/o drivers, etc for this model. Since I'm running XP-32bit SP3, it appears that they are available here: M-audio FW410 Drivers XP-32bit SP3 Similarly, there are drivers for the ProFire 610. Of course that doesn't guarantee that they will work.  I'm assuming you are up and running now?

Reece, this is a Craigslist deal, so at least the seller is local.

I have the maudio 410. I'm on W7 64 bit, Sonar 8.35 and it works perfectly. Not a lot of inputs so I'm moving on to Focusrite sapphire 40 but no complaints with the functionality of the 410 in Sonar.

Thanks filtersweep. Yeah, I think for my purposes it will suit me well. Not sure what I'm gonna do with all those outputs, though.

Round-trip latency is high... due to the driver's large hidden safety buffer.
Otherwise, it's not a bad unit.
Make sure you use a TI chipset Firewire controller.
The FW units are a bit more finicky than the RME units.  ie:  Typically don't work well with Via chipset Firewire controllers.

Thanks Jim... I always value your inputs. This would be a simple upgrade for me from a Behringer UCA202. For me it means going from 16 to 24 bits and I would assume that I should be able to get better latencies than with my current unit.

Having the preamps on board with phantom power may be useful, but since I currently have a symmetrix 528 vocal channel preamp and a A/DA MP1 tube preamp ( Guitar ) not sure if this will get utilized.

Having the 5-pin midi's on board give me some added functionality as well.
Also, Dual Headphone monitors will be sweet if I decide to record any duets.

The drivers installed fine last night and the unit seems to work. I'll start putting this through the paces this weekend. So far it seems like it was worth the investment.

Well, I did a bit of recording with it this weekend.  It did a pretty good job. I am happy with it for now. Sound quality is decent!
