Baroque Organ Work
This is a little (~3 min) organ piece, feel free to comment. Not much to it, no mixing, no effects, no mastering, just notes in a row. I didn't play it, just wrote it. *Subwoofer Advisory* some low notes here and there. Requiem For A Year

Greg, Sorry to hear that your organ is Baroque. I hope you can get it Fa-fixed. Nice big sound Greg.

Wow, Greg, that is a really big organ sound. Some really nice runs across the keys there to... wish I could do that.

this takes me back to walking into catholic church on sunday morning........ I am interested in why you may think that this is Baroque? If it is then what format are you following? by format I am asking what type of compositional format from that era? I am not trying to be a smart guy here..just asking that is all.... because in truth I am not hearing Baroque style or composition here.... I am listening to a enjoyable composition.....not too many people play organ any more and in some ways I kind of miss it so this was a nice interlude to all the other styles we have on this board...... wish I could do that. So do I! The sequencer played it. I could play stuff like that back when I practiced. Thanks Thatsastrat. Big is good. Old55, thanks for listening. James, it is me, sort of. Clifford, you're right; it probably wouldn't be classified as 'baroque' at all, but that's what I was shooting for. I wish I could write the kind of organ music J.S. Bach wrote. As for "compositional format", I know next to nothing about music theory, or what constitutes a particular format. I have no formal musical education at all. I just like to make music. I'm happy you enjoyed it and gave you a nice interlude. The organ is the Church Organ patch of my Yamaha keyboard. Reverb is the hardware 'verb from my Yamaha mixer. Thanks for listening, ya'll.

wow Greg this is soo different, i would never have guessed you! nice stuff. as stated above, this isn't baroque in that the organ sound is far too full and romantic. you may have been going for a fugue Bachian thing, but the textures are too lush and full and 32ft pedal for all that! be nice to here this on a toned down more chamber organ, you need more reed stops io would guess, a thinner and lighter sound. but works as is, nice to hear something this different on here! edit - on 2nd listen at times sounds as though a couple of the pedal notes are off?

on 2nd listen at times sounds as though a couple of the pedal notes are off? You listened twice!? Thanks! So that got me wondering how I could check that (you may recall I scored low normal on the Coffee House Tone Deaf test) so I connected my guitar/bass tuner up to the keyboard and sure enough, as you go lower down the 'board, the notes get more flat. Good ears. Using the tuning feature, I tuned it up 15 cents (I assume) and that seemed to get the Yamaha more in tune across it's 76 keys. Funny that it will play back notes that you can't play on the keyboard, down to C0. I wonder if the instruments Yamaha sampled for the keyboard were all out of tune? It seems like with the tuning set at 0, it would be perfect.

ha although i wish i could claim that hearing i doubt it, although a lot of the organ power is through enharmonics and a slightly off pitch will appear louder than it actually is...it could just be how you wrote it, i dunno. keyboard organ patches are crap cos it's all one velocity and tone, by and large! mine too!

That's pretty amazing Greg! I enjoyed it. I was reading a story in the paper a few months back about the huge pipe organ in the Wanamaker store in Philadelphia(?). They had let it fall into disrepair over time due to no budget to make repairs as things broke. And since it has tens of thousands of moving parts, it was getting in bad shape. They hired 2 full time restorers to work on repairing it...and one of them is also a concert level organist. http://theatreorgans.com/pa/philly/wann/ http://www.cbsnews.com/st...news/main4674807.shtml Interesting stories.... We have a Methodist church here in Wilson that is quite old, in the downtown area. It has a pretty big pipe organ. I had the pleasure to hear a very talented organist there in concert. Quite amazing.

Well If your going to Baroque music look no further than J.S. Bach... He was the culminator of the Baroque era.....if you want to know what a musical from from that time period was suppose to be .look no further .... If you want to know how to break out of that from while still staying inside of it....J.S. is still the man to look to..... they come no finer Clifford

Scottytunes Go Yamaha! Which board is it? Sounds great! It's an 10 year-old PSR-GX76. Bought it and a TASCAM Portastudio 414 MkII to record my songs on back in 2001. Switched to computer recording the next year. Thanks, Janet, Beagle, DJSur, Scottytunes and Guitarhacker.
