I Have a Question???

MLK had a dream... t'was a good dream I s'pose... but I have a question on a completely unrelated subject. What do we(you) call an item/thing that you put over something to keep it from being seen... hide a smell... keep a thing fresh... what do you call the thing on top of what is underneath?

a "cover", right?

I've spent long long hours trying to decipher the deeper meaning of the word "cover" as it relates to the recording of a previously recorded song. (if the song stunk... I understand) I've long suspected black helicopters circling our house as I research this from the throne... why didn't someone call it a "Lid" o_O? Since I firmly believe there is nothing new under the sun, I KNOW many of you closet throne researchers have look overhead hoping not to see black helicopters too. People have been calling it a 'cover' for years... please... spare my frazzled mental state further frizzies and share the meaning of the secret word..... PA-LEEZE!

When you go to sleep, you don't cover yourself with a lid, I hope!!?? That's been the fate of many who have spent too long time thinking too hard and looking for black helicopters.

How big an area does the lid cover?
Does the cover need to sit skin tight?
If you make a rock version of a classic walz, is it a cover or just a version?
Don't keep your coverknowledge under a lid.

If you would simply wear your tin foil helmet when you contemplate such things, THEY, (you know who I'm talking about)  wouldn't be able to hear your thoughts... so no black helicopters.....

I've spent long long hours trying to decipher the deeper meaning of the word "cover" as it relates to the recording of a previously recorded song.

I *think* it originally meant 'blot out' or 'eclipse', because very often 2 versions of the same song would be released at the same time, the one trying to outdo the other in the 'hit parade'.  I'm thinking late '50's perhaps?

Cover can also mean 'to stand in for...'   so by recording a 'cover' you're standing in for the orriginal artist.

It's been my experience that "cover", in the context of a cover band, may also mean, "Please, somebody!  Pay me!  Please!  For the love of humanity!  I'm starving here!"

I seem to remember a photo of (supposedly) you in "overalls" and not much else.

    I shudder thinking of it.

so answer is you should wear MORE than overalls at least!

The word you're looking for, I think, is "overeverythingsanddon'tforgetthatbitoverthereforcryingoutloud."  It's a bit long, but I think that covers it.
