M-Audio Audiophile 2496 or Cakewalk UA-1G
Hey everyone. These two are priced about the same. My main concern is USB MIDI keyboard latency. Does anyone here know what kind of latency these drivers can supply. I'm running Windows XP Pro SP3, Sonar 6.2.1, Pentium 4 HT 3.2Ghz, 2 GB 533Mhz RAM, 2 SATA HDs. Thanks in advance!

Sounds like a trick question LOL !  USB MIDI keyboards have their own driver, they don't use the one the sound card uses even if the sound card has MIDI ports. Did I pass the test ? Did I... Did I !

Sorry. I guess I wasn't very clear. I'm using soft synths, so I need my audio mixing latency in Sonar to be pretty low when I'm recording MIDI data with the keyboard. I was wondering if one of these two interfaces was significantly better in the latency department.

I haven't tried the UA-1G but the M-Audio drivers are good and it's PCI. Just an educated guess here but I would think the 2496 would be the lowest latency. However, I don't know if the difference would be "significant". The UA-1G does have more features. I have used the 2496 and it's a good sounding card with good driver support. The only reason I got rid of it was because it had only unbalanced inputs and I never could get completely noise free track. If you plan to use any outboard preamps or other gear with a balanced output I would get the Audiophile 192, it has balanced I/O and is still cheap and good. Even if you just had powered monitors with balanced inputs it's worth the extra few dollars to get rid of the hiss.

Running the 2496 on my i7 PC I can get it down to around 2ms recording latency (ASIO buffers at 64 samples) with a total round-trip latency of ~7ms. i.e. no noticeable latency when playing soft-synths live with a USB MIDI keyboard

I haven't used the UA1G either, but I have used a Delta 44 which uses the same drivers as the 2496 and I suspect it would be the faster between the two.

i run win xp.
i had the 2496 card to start with, for a year, it was a great entry level card.
then i moved up to the Maudio Audiophile 192 card.
rock solid.
great sounding convertors.
no problems.
and i like the breakout cables better than the set that comes with the 2496.

I've just have had to wait 3 months for m-audio to fix their none working win7 drivers (for the ozone) .. their support was worse than useless.. and 2 weeks earlier I've just replaced my equipment to things that work from another company... so "thanks m-audio", you lot cost me a lot of money and time.. they and avid are never getting another penny of my money. so for me , that would make my choice easier if I had to pick between the 2 products , solely on support + driver reasons.
