That mthrfkr is loud, dude! No worries though and no nits. You're a Tool fan aren't ya? It is loud as hell and right up in your face but the mix is damn solid. Spin one up 420 and I'll be right over.

great mix, well played. not sure about vocals at times, sounds like it's a bit of a strain to reach those higher notes. otherwise great!

Hey, Kurt, Great song and a good mix with nice tone and width on the guitars, I definitely agree about the Tool vibe, nice work! P.S. Waaaaaay back in the '80s one of my cover bands used to play a bar in Dubois called "The Crossings". I still remember hating the 5 hour drive home in the snow when we weren't crashing at a motel before heading to the next gig. Good times! Have a good one! Bob

is420, This isn't my genre but everything I heard sounds great. Guitar and drums sound great. I'm listening on PC speakers and the Bass isn't quite translating well. The vocal performance is good although IMO it might have a little too much of the low end rolled off. I think it needs alittle more body. Also, if I'm honest the VOX is pitchy if a few spots but that's more of a nit. Definately a good song and mix.

insecure420 i cant help being a little pitchy. its me...i dont auto correct either. just do the takes and hope i got it close to what i hear in my head I think the vocal performance is good... not too pitchy, IMO. I do agree with psalmist35 that the vocal mix needs work though. It sounds like it was recorded "in another room", if you know what I mean. Needs to be more upfront to match the instruments, cut that delay/reverb thing you have going on which reduces the impact, IMO. Center the vocal a bit more too... it's like it's just left of center. I agree it needs a little more low end... and maybe some aggressive sautration/compression to bring it into balance with the instruments. I like the old school rock mix on the backing tracks. Overall a pretty good balance on tone and levels. Not too much overproduced glossy type sound, etc. which can get tiring when listening to the radio...

HF mix problems: Guitars too crisp, all percussion too dull, vocal sibilance hot and vocal air dull. Quick fix: Get the vocal air and the sibilance closer together with a de-esser (pre-eq), then put the crash and hat between them. When you've done that, put the crispness of the guitar under the vocal air. Vocal melody uncertainty: a few more takes and you'll decide what those notes are and sing them with more conviction. Overall liked the song.

Heck! I can't even play my sax in tune and all I have to do is mash a key to play the right note. It can't get any easier than that and I still don't get it right. You have a good ear and your vocal performance was well done. My comment was a minor crit and I didn't mean to take away from the entire performance. Regards, Rich

Listening thru some Klipsch monitors and truth monitors, vox seems a tad buried (not out front enough) and muffled compared to say the sharpness of the guitar.... The song kicks major butt!!! I like it a lot!! Thanks for sharing!!!

this song was inspired by don felder's heavy metal. played in dropped D, and yes, big tool fan. loving the feedback. that was my first attempt at the vocals. the second attempt was tired so i used the first. the sharpness of the guitar was a mistake of too much treble i think. used a 200.00 line 6 spider IV 30. always wanted a more modern beefier sound but, i lack the equipment . i ditched my mesa cause it produced one sound and not my sound....still working on that the reverb on the vocals was cakewalk fx reverb set on warm intimate and it is centered. but i brought the overall down to 12% or so.... i never can find good reverbs that give me just the right amount. then again , im a preset junkie............ if any of you have heard my previous recordings over the last 2 years, you'd see that i am improving at songwriting and recording. and i have you all to thank.

given that this was a first attempt....do any of you see potential for success in my voice and / or production skills? because if i don't make it as an artist, i would love to be a behind-the-scenes kinda guy, the studio that made a band sound good.

I like this allot! I actually like the crispiness of the guitars. Some great playing! Very cool heavy groove you've got going here. The vocals sound good to me after listening to the song for a bit. They may not be perfect, but that sits fine with me. Gives it a human feel. Your a good singer in my book. I'm a fan! I'd like to hear more.

the word crispiness has been mentioned here a bunch....what actually defines this term? is it treble? or is it you hear too much frequency between 2k and 6k? is it something i can remedy at the post eq stage? not that i want to fix it. i just dont hear it as you guys do. being the artist and studio, i have trouble mixing my own stuff

I agree it needs a little more low end... and maybe some aggressive sautration/compression to bring it into balance with the instruments. man, i see what you mean now that i put voxengo span on it... there is nothing, i mean absolutely nothing below 250hz. then i looked at my microphone.. the switch was set to HPF, instead of the flat line. but i thought i read in the instructions that that switch only rolled off 100hz and below

Good tune. Nicely constructed... I liked all the cuts/chops, they added interest. Overall this was very impressive, especially for a first effort. It felt like it could have used a bit more punch on the bottom, but maybe I was missing something listening thru my pc speakers. The vocal had great emotion behind it, and was generally well sung excepting a few parts where you had to test the upper end of your range. Not a bad idea to try it out before, and detune or re-key a step if you feel like you're really straining.
