Your vocals are real strong on this one, Josh. The chorus is good, but waiting 1:30 to get there doesn't do it any justice. Guitar sound well played. Don't get the weird break at 1:01 at all. It does not serve the song in any capacity. Overall, the mix is sounds all highs and lows (and when I say lows, the only thing low is the bass). Lyrically, I am completely lost: the entire song, other than the chorus, is about the crucifixion, and sad to say, there ain't much new to tell in that story. So when it finally gets to the chorus, it's all about you, when there was no interjection of you in the rest of the tune. That does not scan to me. There needs to be another section to the song that makes the connection lyrically for the listener.

James, I'll pm you the back story, perhaps you can help me figure out where I went awry. I agree about the mid's not being there. I heard the same thing, but in my mind I couln't think what or how to change to fill it in. Is that bumping the bass at 800? Which I did in the version you listened to, or do I bump the guitars? Bring the highs and lows down? Final EQ? What do you think would be the best way to attack that problem?

Bumping the bass at 800 is almost never a good idea. Maybe add another guitar with some crunch (400-900hz), or re-do the guitar with a new setting that can take advantage of all the middle space.

Not sure if I was a fan of the intro, but liked the verse melody fine. Almost felt like you could widen the sound stage just a bit. And yes, I might turn up the kick a bit more. Finally, there was some rough transitions, for example, chorus to verse. All that being said, I still thought was a pretty decent track. My two cents

Joshua I really love you vox...I have to agree with James... it is strong .... I also think you have a couple of tracks here.....for me it felt like you were trying to blend two (maybe three) tracks together into one......maybe put it down for a few days and don't think about it and then come back with fresh ears.....sometimes this seems to help......and then again.........sometimes not....... I cannot tell where it's missing Freq. cause I only have cheap PC speakers to listen on but of it that I can hear I like you "Sound" ... I thinkyou know what your after....your just not sure of how to get it...... wish I could help more than this ....I will listen a few more times and maybe see what comes to mind..... Clifford

Trucker, I really appreciate that advice and I'm looking forward to more input from you. yo yo is right, there's some missing freq, but it didn't seem to be there [missing] before the vox...so I'm wondering if there is too much "room" noise in the vocal track and that's what's creating the space? Can anyone comment on that?

Great vocals. I used to listen to a lot of indie christian rock. I think this fits in really nice with that era of music about 10 years ago. It's too bad there's not more of it. Guitar works very well, the bass is a little muddy at moments. I think it would be nice to work in a bit of dynamics, like at some of the verses bring it down a notch and let the vocals carry it kind of like the Doors would do and then break back into it and get a little loose and wild on a solo then bring back into focus again. Let the music work around the words of the song a bit more - This could be a great spiritually charged tune!

Got a Creed vibe, very good IMO. I liked the way it transitions from verse to chorus, and vice versa. I couldn't figure out what it's about though? Who is this Jesus you sing of? If you're wondering about how to get your Freq on? You can use an analyzer? I use Roger Nichols. You can look at the freak on each track, and overall? It's a good tool to help with separation.

wow sounds very different with vocals. this is very Seattle isn't it? the instrumentation is too pumped, so that when the vocals come in there is obvious compression kicking in. but wow, Josh, the vocals are f'ing amazing. you sound alternately like Robert Plant, Rob Halford and Perry Farrell. This is an amazing song, just needs a bit of TLC to the mix. lower all ur faders to the bottom, start with drums and bass, then add vocals, then the rest.you're gonna need to ride automation very hard in this, and it'll be a PITA to mix, but the song is worth it Josh!

Ok I have listened to this several times now and let it roll around my noggin for a few days... Here are my thoughts concerning this tunes structure..... 1. I think you have two intro's 2. I think you have two song's I think your first into up to 0:17 and chorus can be one tune and your second intro from 0:18 on and verse could be the second tune This may work a little bit better....It means you will have to rewrite your chorus and melody for it but it may fit better........ just a thought because to me that is what feels right..... my 2 cents.........but I still like your concept and content and work.....it's good.... During the writing process, I got SOOO excited about the potential that I ended up taking some of my best licks and riffs and add them to this song, with the thought that if a song with one good riff is good, then 3 makes it great...right? So, it's funny that you picked that out. Thank you very much for your thoughtful feedback and detailed response.

As far as seattle, yeah, I had some dreamy thoughts of eddy vedder at one point, obviously that showed. LOL.

Excellent Guitars, and lively sound, not that I am any kind of expert. Heck, I'm taking a break from the guitar for a while right now. Not the forums. There is no such thing as a review, only a continuation of the sound. "And no I'm Not HIGH!". It needs a bit more treble, and fast and fat content doesn't always mean good. Just my opinion. Keep on Rockin' Dude!!! Bobby

Josh, I just love your voice and vocal style man... you may need just a little more discipline (like I should talk ), but you definitely got the goods there. I'm not going to comment on the song right now, because I'd need to listen intently several more time before attempting a comment on writing (and I'm working right now). I will say that, FWIW, I liked the overall feel alot. With apologies for only a peripheral listen, mix wise, it sounded like it could use some more oomph in the mid range. Always liking what I hear from you.

I would be nice to be under the tuteledge of a vocal teacher who could help me learn where I need to focus. Secondly, mid-range definitely seems to be lacking. I didn't hear that when the track didn't have a vocal track either. No one else did either. So, I'm wondering if it's too much space in the vocal take. I don't have a vocal booth, I only have my bedroom and it's FAIRLY quiet, but it's got some bounce...anyways. I saw a vocal booth that BAPU built, that I think I'm going to replicate and see how that changes me ability to shape a good sound.

Great singing performance! One of the better ones so far. It fits the message you are trying to cover very well. Great guitar playing and excellent production. Great song structure, long enough for someone to sink their teeth into it. The "hey, hey" at 1:20 and 3:03 seems out of place. Those are hip-hop elements and you have a banging rock song here.
