I don't even have one of these... luckily I have a friend that does... but only just the one:

At least I have a camera. :-)

You and me both. I would even go for the 149 or 150 maybe a U67. I had to go for the home studio high end with a TLM49. What I would rather have more than the above however would be the U48. Multi-pattern.

I imagine the TLM49 is a fantastic mic. I think there are diminishing returns that come on fast after that range of quality.

I'm also realizing that at 24 bit I can hear a difference clearly between nice mics while at 16 bit export all the good stuff sounds more alike than different.

I am going to be on a quest for transformer based mics for a few years and unfortunately the big name companies don't do much of that any more.

Tomorrow I am taking two of my AEA R84s in to Pete's studio for an old timey string band session. It's good to have good friends that are in for the love of helping musicians.

    best regards,
    mike

The TLM49 is very nice just not universal in it's application. It's sweet spot is vocal and acoustic guitar which is why I picked it up. I agree, at 16 bits it's more about the tonal color versus nuance. Love the AEA R84s for that old time sound, have fun on that session.
