I just couldn't resist it...

The offer was just to good to turn down and the nice sales guy even carried the very large box down the street to the car park and put it in my car for me.  (I think he was trying to make sure I didn't change my mind...)

So what comes in a cardboard box??

One of these....

Isn't it beautiful?

Luurvely...

Every time I setup a new PC the first thing I have to do is install upgrades to the OS.
When I bought my kids a PS3 the first thing I did was upgrade the OS.
I recently bought an iPod and it needed an upgrade to the OS.
Even my TV got an OS upgrade a few months ago.

But this is the first time I've even had to even think about upgrading the OS in a guitar....  and guess what?  Not only are there several OS updates since the initial release,  but I can even upgrade it to the latest Dusk Tiger spec.  That's like updating from Vista to Win7  How F&^*kin kewl is that?    I got a brand new Dusk Tiger without the stupid tiger stripes for (way) less than the true price of a Dark Fire

Did I mention I got a Dark Fire?

Hey you got a guitar that matches the colour of my eyes.

    Now that is cool!

That is so cool! It's one of those robot guitars that tune themselves!

Can't wait until there are aftermarket kits available for strats and other guitars, or Gibson makes a left handed model. :(

You gotta make some recordings with it for us now.

I'm working on a prototype aftermarket robo-tuner.  It works pretty good but I have some bugs to work out.  Like the noise coming from the gasoline engine.

So it's got a chip in it? Could you post some details Karyn?

    Very briefly..

    It tunes in 2 - 3 seconds.
It has 24 (I think) tuning memories for alternate tuning.

    Sounds
    There are 3 PUps
Neck pos,  P90H  a 'stacked twin coil' single coil. Can be used as single or dual (with phase reversal)
Bridge pos, Burstbucker 3,  splittable and phase reversing.
    The Bridge,  Hex Piezo

The tone circuits are processor controlled, 4 band parametric eq.
The processor has 8 tone memories that combine combinations of pickup coils and phases with Peq settings to create most 'classic' guitar sounds.

The pup selector switch doubles as a 'blend' control between the mag pups and the piezo.  The standard output is stereo with mag pups to one chanel and piezo to the other for seperate amps, or using the firewire interface the hex piezo allows each string to be processed individually.

With the power turned off it all acts like a 'standard' LP.

Lovely instrument, I hope it gives you many years of inspiration and enjoyment.

    Ooo, that looks nice, congrats.

In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.

You need to use a motor instead of an engine. A lot quieter. And, you could use the strumming of the strings as a vibration generator to recharge the battery for the motor. Brilliant! I'm trying to redeem myself from my signature.

Well, I've already got the c-channel frame welded up for the engine.  Wouldn't want to backtrack this stage of the game.

Well if you can't play, it's a good thing you got a guitar that can tune itself. One less thing to have to learn. :)

You know, the next step in this technology is the guitar actually playing itself.

Funny you should say that....  I was trying to come up with some unique ideas last night that you could only do with the Dark Fire and decided on recording a piece where all the chords have been programmed into the tuning memories, so the 'player' just strums the guitar while selecting the right chords...

I've been experimenting with some ideas for it already.
