Is this for real?

I mean this is 2011 right?

Firewire has come and gone even, we have blue tooth, mass storage on phones, PC transfer cables and all that.

How on Earth then did the brains at Cakewalk cook this one up?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qOSzxk654g4

Never mind Elvis has left the building Cakewalk have officially left the planet on this one, or am I missing something?

I bought this when it came out but it kept crashing on my PC. I think there's a 'free upgrade' patch planned for sometime in February, but Cakewalk can't say for sure.

Notice it records in stereo, but it only comes with 1 mic.

There's a video version coming where you get a web-cam to point at your phone...

And Address Book Pro, where you get a pen and a pad scroll through your phone numbers and simply jot them down...

It's a feature to maintain compatibility with Sonar's Rewire implementation, it says Stereo and hopes you won't notice it is in fact mono.

It's a new standard, it has two channels just like stereo but you get full mono compatibility in all your mixes. Genius.

Other DAWs will follow you'll see.

Yeah, I hear that when the promotional campaign starts, the product is going to be "highly endorsed" by Mel Gibson's girlfriend and Tiger Woods's wife.

I like the way that it comes with a built in mp3 encoder yet when you buy their top of the range audio production software you are expected to pay extra for that. ;)

this may just be the worst 'new' product i have ever seen. i mean, seriously, it is like an infomercial from 1995 just fell through a time-space continuum and landed in 2011...

firstly, why? who on earth is gonna want to save voicemails to their pc (excepting journalists from the NotW, obviously), and anyone who does, is gonna use usb to connect their phone...

and why then would you want to convert said voicemail to mp3???!!

don't know why this is making me feel queasy, but it does. anybody else having that...where has dear old CW gone feeling?

    Exactly.

My views from the other thread.

It isn't the nature or idea of marketing a consumer product that alarms me, it's the idea that somebody at the organization could have dwelt on this long enough to think it had 'legs'.

What was the theme for the ideas session 'A Christmas Turkey?'

If you are marketing under a 'brand' surely the idea is to choose products that lend an air of desirability in order to prompt people to buy into that brand.

A revolving 'Cakewalk' bow tie may have been a more beneficial product toward the 'brand' in this instance.

A bunch of 11 years olds on a school assignment would likely have shown much more drive and market savvy than this for heavens sake.

I'm holding out until they provide the ear set output to mic input adapter. I guess you'd need input echo for to monitor... that could get confusing.

I can't figure out of it's for real.... Or a Steinberg hoax what do you think?

The scary part is that the video is produced better than what SONAR users are presented with.

I wonder if it has ProChannel?

If it is real it is pretty darn scary that the company is out trolling for revenue any place it can find something.

Best yet, it seems like they used P5 to make the backing track.

    Crazy!

    Thanks for the link.

    A bargain.

Too bad the 'Audacity' name is already taken, ironically by product will do the same thing and plenty more besides for free.

    LMAO

I still can't believe the microphone... I guess it cost less to make than a mini jack to mini jack cable.

I'm picturing a big box of surplus microphones pulled from the "so last decade" vocoders that no one can sell this decade.

For me, the Cakewalk brand has reached a new low.

    And that's pretty low BTW.

I can see it now... my wife is in Best Buy thinking "I want to record hubby's love tomes for posterity" and she sees the Cakewalk by Roland box.

She thinks to herself "That's the company that keeps selling my husband software that doesn't work as advertised"

And then she walks over to the Blu Ray section.

I expect this will be bundled in X2... why not... there's hardly anything left to throw overboard.

    best regards,
