Builders arrived today to start on my new studio.
Should finally have a bit of elbow room and not feel like I'm locked away in a cupboard! Just six weeks of noise, dust and bad language to put up with (and that's just the wife!).
Studio: X1P on Q9550 @ 3.4Ghz P45 8Gb DDR3. W7 x64. MOTU 1296, 2408 Mk3. TC-Helicon Voiceworks. BCF2000. Stage: Cantabile Performer 2 on E8600 @ 4Ghz P45 8Gb DDR2. W7 x64. 2408 Mk3, TC-Helicon Harmony-M.

It's a complete rebuild so a good chance to get it right.

We want photos (and so do you for your own protection) of the entire event from start to finish. Construction is nothing to me but it's a major shock to many (including your neighbors) and many times people try to take advantage of the situation (from all angles). There's nothing like the satisfaction of a completed build. You will need to take photos of problems that will occur during the build. I suggest you take photos of the cleared demolition area to show there is no damage to the sorrounding area if it borders your neighbors. Etc. Have fun!

Don't forget to install the bass bins BEFORE they start building the walls to save problems with doors being to small.. and you could position the mixer* in the control room before they build the walls for the same reason. *(audio not concrete)

Crg We want photos (and so do you for your own protection) of the entire event from start to finish. Etc. Have fun! This is an important tip. It's also helpful to document where all the utilities are hidden in the walls. I had to fire a HVAC company because they set out a untrained employee with improper tools. I photographed all his work, and wrote a very polite letter that I included with my payment and advised the company to return my whole check if they wanted to do the right thing. The sent me my check back... and I fixed all the stuff the guy messed up. A year later we bought a new mattress... the delivery guy was the HVAC technician that presumably never got trained at the HYAC company. He says "I've been here before" and then he starts gazing around at the workmanship on our remodel and says "wow this is really nice" this place was a mess when I was doing that work. It was as if the experience of seeing the before after was more valuable than any training he received on the job as a journeyman. I thanked him profusely for doing such a good job with the delivery of our new mattress. If I have any regret... it is that I didn't take more photos for reference. The ones I have are real useful for finding studs and electrical wires etc. best regards, mike
