Cakewalk Music Creator and Juno-G

This is probably a stupid question, but I've read both manuals and neither is very helpful.

I've created a song file on the Juno-G. I want to transfer it to CWMC so I can do a little editing, and add a voice track to it (I prefer using CWMC to edit voice instead of the Juno-G). I save the file as a .MID and Cakewalk will open it correctly, but it does not seem to read the patch information, and the song loads with all parts being played by the default piano patch.

Is there a way to maintain patch information when I load a song from my Juno-G into Cakewalk?

I appreciate any advice you can give me.

Probably the patches on the Juno have no corresponding patches in MC, unless you are using strictly General MIDI patches on the Juno, if it has them.
Which version of MC do you have?

    Hi Hayes,
Your problem is this, an understanding of midi.  The midi file contains the information an instrument (Synth) needs to play it but it does not supply the instrument.  It can be played on a number of different instruments (Synths).

Cakewalk provides a couple of different Synths but they are different from your Juno-G. It may be possible to find a softsynth and patch that are similar to those in the Juno-G.  The patch information is one of the things that can reside in a midi file, but if the synth doesn't recognize it then it usually drops back to a default setting such as piano.

You can try different patches to find one which may resemble the one you selected in the Juno-G or your other option is to record the output of your Juno-G directly into cakewalk as an audio file. Hope this helps and welcome to the forum.

You might want to do a site search for a patch map for the Juno-G and see if one is available.

I'd Seize the day but i can't quite reach it!

Okay, an update. I went to the Roland website. They have a service that creates a patch map for any of their synthesizer tailored to whichever program you are using. I installed it, changed the settings I needed to, etc etc.

The song loads properly, and I now can access a list of patches that include all the patches from my Juno. When I select the Juno itself as the output destination, the patches play properly. But if I disconnect the Juno, then Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth is the default output. When I try to play from that synth, it still just plays one of the basic 128 patches. So instead of getting the nifty electronic sounds I was going for, I end up hearing my song as played through mechanical tubas and violins, even though I have supposedly assigned the Juno patches.

I am so freaking confused. Any more advice?

    Re-read Taps answer.

The actual sounds are never loaded into your computer. MIDI never includes any sound. The only way to get the Juno sounds into your PC is bying a software imitation of Juno.

A patchmap doesn't include sounds either. It's a map that interprets the order of patches in the patch lists between different synths (like the tuba of this synth is positioned where the flute of that synth is).

Correct. The patch map just tells the Juno what patches to play. Those patches are not in any other synthesizer. Well, maybe they are, but they're certainly not in the MS Wavetable synth.
