Latency, vocals falling behind?

So I tried reducing the latency in sonar but to no avail.
The vocals I record continue to fall behind the snares of the instrumental. (Recording with no effects either.)

I don't think it's my sound card because the vocals all match up fine in sony acid music studio.

Using sonar 8.5 studio version.

Thank you in advance.

what soundcard are you using?  never assume.

sonar is not sony acid.  acid may use the drivers differently so you may need adjustments.

also, what do you have your sampling rate set to in sonar and what is it on the soundcard?  sample rate mismatch will cause tracks to drift away from each other.

so will using 2 soundcards at the same time - and usb mics are soundcards too.

tell us more about your system and we can try to help.

well my usb mic is a perception 120

the sampling rate is on 44100 and I'm using a realtek HD audio driver, ATI SB750

not sure if that's the sound card or not because I'm not really sure how to know what my sound card, sorry.

you are using the mic as a soundcard w/, I guess, generic drivers.  Not sure what you are listening back on.

You probably have a lot of latency (Options>Audio>drivers and etc.).  Acid, being a clip and loop based engine is probably automatically snapping your vocals to the start of the measure.  You should be able to do this in Sonar manually.  You might have to split your tracks and move each verse/chorus to the start of the measure, but if you are singing rapping in time it ought to line up.  Unless your mic or card is set to 48 kHz sample rate, which also might be responsible for playing it late (I suppose you are working w/ loops).

using 2 soundcards will cause sync problems when you're trying to monitor with one soundcard (the onboard soundcard that you have your computer speakers plugged into) while recording with the other (the usb mic).  if your usb mic has a headphone plug, use that instead of the onboard soundcard to prevent from using the two separate soundcards.
